My Heart Can't Tell You No (White Pine Original Fic AU)

Title: My Heart Can’t Tell You No
Fandom: White Pine Original Fic
Pairing: Travis Murphy/Ethan McDowell
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,074
Summary: Travis is a vampire but can’t face the idea of living for eternity without Ethan by his side.
Author’s Note: There is this lovely person that likes to prompt original m/m fic on comment_fic.  I think I love them.  :D  Today’s prompt was: “Original fiction; any M/M pair, Person A is bitten by a vampire, and unable to live forever without their lover, they turn person B.”  So, of course, I have to write an AU of my own fandom… how weird is that?  This would have been a ton of fun with Zek and Reyes, but they’re not exactly a couple… so Travis is the next obvious choice.  Or he was for me anyway.  Five bonus points to anyone who can cite the source of the quote in my cut.  :D

“You’re what?”  Ethan shook his head, giving his partner a sideways look.  “Have you been in the Jameson already this morning, Murph?  Because you’re acting either drunk or crazy.”

“No, I’m not drunk – or crazy – baby.  But it’s true.  I’m a vampire.”  Travis turned those stunning blue eyes on Ethan, fixing him with his gaze.  “And I know I can’t live forever without you.  Hell, I called you eight times last night and you were sixteen minutes away from me.  Twelve if I pushed it.”

“This is insane,” Ethan said, giving Travis a look he knew all too well.  The one that said he spent entirely too many years living with the people inside his head and not enough time with those in the real world.  “You think I’ve written too many novels and can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy.”

“No, I never said that.  But you can’t tell me that this doesn’t sound a little bit off.”  Ethan traced a finger along the familiar line of Travis’ jaw, frowning at the coolness of his skin.  “Besides, you’re not even Romanian.”

“Since when do you have to be Romanian to become a vampire?  Bram Stoker was Irish after all.”

“This is what I get for living with a writer,” Ethan muttered.  “So what if Stoker was Irish?  You’re only half Irish.  Doesn’t your Hispanic blood have anything to say about this?”

“You think there aren’t any vampires in Mexico, McDowell?”  Travis plastered that playful smile on his face, the one that always proclaimed he was game for anything coming his way.

Ethan narrowed his eyes.  “I can’t say I’ve ever been to Mexico, Murph.  I’ll have to trust your mother’s stories on this one.”

Travis placed his hands on Ethan’s arms, drawing him close.  “I know that I don’t have the best track record when it comes to being serious about things, but I’m not kidding about this.  I was bitten last month and –”

“ – and you were sick for days, I remember. I was scared to –”

“ – I thought I was going to die and well, I did, kinda, but now I’m back and here and –”

“Travis, stop it.  There’s just no way, it’s not possible it’s –”

“Shut up,” Travis said, drawing Ethan’s mouth close to his.  “There’s only one way I can convince you.  Let me show you.”

Leaning in for a kiss, Travis tugged Ethan’s lower lip into his mouth.  Grazing the tip of one elongated canine along Ethan’s plump flesh, a thin rivulet of blood welled to the surface.  Murphy’s tongue snaked out, drawing every molecule of the red elixir from Ethan’s skin.  Travis felt his lover shudder in his arms.  Fixing his mouth solely on that bottom lip, Travis began to suck lightly, only releasing when Ethan’s hand gripped the back of his neck.

“Travis,” he whimpered, face pale and heart racing.

“You believe me now?”  Travis dragged his tongue from the crux of Ethan’s shoulder to just behind his lover’s ear.  “You want to join me?”

Ethan pulled back and looked into the comfort of those familiar blue eyes.  “I’m scared,” he confessed.  “But… I don’t ever want to be without you, either.  You crazy ass Irishman.”

Chuckling, Travis kissed Ethan’s forehead.  “Is that a yes?”

He nodded, unable to form the words necessary to answer Murphy’s question. Instead of words, Ethan tilted his head to the side, exposing himself to Travis’ hunger.  Ethan allowed his eyes to flutter closed, putting trust in Travis and his love.  Giving himself over to the vampire, everything was the sound of color and the warmth of sound, the music of the light.  Teeth and blood and heartbeats meshed and Ethan was no longer.

Ethan awoke to the sound of Travis singing something he couldn’t quite understand. The lyrical lilt gave the words away as being Gaelic, but his slight Hispanic accent gave it all a more Latin flair.  It was an unusual contrast, but one that he was more familiar with than not.  Murphy was, after all, notorious for switching between English, Spanish, and Gaelic during any one conversation.  Having his parents in the room only made his language hopping worse.

“Travis?”  Ethan’s voice was breathy and weak, but it was there.

“Ah, there’s my baby,” Travis crooned, smoothing his reddish brown hair off his face.  “Sleep well?”

“I’m… hungry, Murph.”  Two gold-flecked green eyes begged Travis for relief.

“I can help you with that.”

Travis pushed the sleeve of his forest green flannel up past his elbow before retrieving the blade he’d left on the nightstand in case… Murphy pushed the awful thought aside and drew a line across his arm, allowing the blood to pool before offering himself to his lover.  Ethan’s nostrils flared and his eyes widened, scenting and sighting before lunging.  Wincing slightly as Ethan latched on, Travis relaxed and allowed his baby vampire boyfriend to suckle.

When he’d had his fill, Ethan pulled back, wiping at his mouth with the back of his hand.  Glancing at the smeared mess he’d left on Travis’ arm, Ethan blanched.  “I’m sorry, Murph.  Let me get a washcloth and –”

Again, Travis chuckled softly, pushing Ethan back into the pillow.  “Relax, baby.  I can handle this myself.  Get some rest and I’ll see you after dusk.”

“Aren’t there things I need to know, things you should be teaching me,” Ethan asked, eager to get right at it, just as he’d always been.

“We have all the time in the world for that, Ethan.  And so much more, too.  Lessons and lovemaking, card games and night shifts.  We can even go fishing in the dark now and not have to worry about poking someone’s eye out with a pole anymore.”

Temporarily satisfied, Ethan patted the mattress beside him.  “Come lie with me?”

“Of course,” Travis agreed.  He’d forced himself to stay awake just in case Ethan woke during the day, needing to eat.  Now that Ethan had had his first feeding, they could both rest easily and sleep as long as need be.  “I couldn’t ever sleep anywhere but beside you.”

Travis climbed into the bed they’d shared for years and held his arms out to Ethan.  Cuddled together, they fell easily into the sleep of the dead, silent, still, and breathless.  Eternal.

For the third time since they’d met on that wintery December day, Travis was starting over.  This time, it would be forever.

I've been accused of having a song lyric for every occasion... I also sometimes think I have a comic for every occasion, too.

Yay! And thank you so much. :) I truly believe that would be the way, too. :D

Hahaha... I love that comic and thought it fitting.

I can be very picky about the silly humor, too. Nowadays, those old Airplane-like movies aren't silly, they're just gross and laden with sexual innuendo which is fine, in doses. I don't want an entire movie of it, you know? Hahaha... "What do you make of it?" "A brooch. Or a flower. Or a pterodactyl!" (or something like that LOL)

YES. Fright Night is classic. I've never seen the remake though, but I do love the original. I can't remember if I've seen Shadow of a Vampire though. OMG though, I did watch a gay vampire flick last year or the year before that bordered on soft porn in parts... it was SO BAD but I watched it anyway. LOL (I think it might have been called Vampire Boys)

Hahaha... between Netflix and the library, recommend away! I'm currently slogging through season 2 of Heroes (and although it hasn't been awful - I remember a lot of it still - it's not as good as season 1 was), but am always looking for new stuff. :D

Good, I'll rec you any time I think of it!

I looked up Vampire Boys on IMDb - it does sound bad, but very porny! Sometimes bad soft porn can be fun - I'd watch it if I had access anyway! And yay for Heroes - I don't think I ever got past S1, but keep thinking it should be on my list to check out! ;-)

YAY!

OMG, don't I know it. Have you ever heard of a show called Dante's Cove? It was produced by an all-LGBT station (HERE Network or something like that) and is basically nothing BUT soft porn. It's paranormal with witches and such. My husband found it years ago when we first got Netflix and ordered the DVDs for me. I was rather taken aback about four minutes into the show. Hahahaha.

I remember watching at least the first two seasons, but my husband says we watched all four (but this started back in 2006 so, my brain is fried). I don't normally rewatch shows (unless someone is playing reruns while I'm making dinner), but with Heroes Reborn coming this fall, I wanted to brush up. :D If nothing else, go back and rewatch season 1. It really was the best.

Oh yeah, I know Dante's Cove - I've watched a little on YT. ha, I can see why you'd be taken aback. I do love that your husband enables you like this! ;-)

I do have recollections of Heroes S1. I really loved Isaac, who was oh-so-pretty (hey, I'm shallow), and I love Hiro and his friend (Endo?), plus the brothers Nathan & Peter. I should try it again sometime. Oh, and Sylar. Who could forget the evil Sylar. And HRG. Ha. I keep remembering shit. We'll have circled round to 'Save the cheerleader, save the world' soon. ;-P

Right? Not like it's awful or anything, but I sure wasn't expecting what I got either. He's too funny. He'll terrorize the hell out of me for something and then do this. :D

Yes, I did like Isaac's character, too. Hiro (and Ando, you were so close!) was always my favorite, although Peter came a close second. It's crazy, because the show first aired in 2006 and I remember the episodes so clearly as I'm watching them, it's creepy. :)

I won't say it... :D
