April Update

First, before I get sidetracked: when I totaled my words to date for the year, I’ve already broken 100k. My goal for the year is only 200k. HOLY MOLY.

Okay, now on to the nerdy stuff…

What I Read:

Play It Again by Aidan Wayne – cute YA-ish novel about a blind and gay YouTuber and his asexual boyfriend. Quick, light read with lots of good, happy feels.

Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi – I finished this book several weeks ago and I still am not sure WTF I read. Interesting read and beautifully written, even if you don’t know what the heck is going on most of the time.

The Way the World Ends by Jess Walter – a novella in the Warmer collection by Amazon – all the books are about climate change in one way or another. This was probably the best in the series.

The Hillside by Jane Smiley – another in the Warmer collection. Damn near as bizarre as Gingerbread above. Not my cup of tea, but not awful either.

Unbroken Cowboy by Maisey Yates – cute, sweet book about a beat up rodeo rider and a girl he’s known forever. There were parts of this that bugged the heck out of me, but it ended up being a good story.

Little Darlings by Melanie Golding – One of the best books I’ve read this year. Two parts mystery, one part dark faerie tale.

Belly Up by Eva Darrows – cute and realistic novel about a teen girl who discovers she’s pregnant. Loved this book so much.

I read a lot more than I realized, which isn’t surprising. I spent a lot of time on my own this month. LOL

What I Watched:

Heroes Reborn – not as good as the original series, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Looking – wasn’t sure what to expect going into this, but I laughed my butt off for the most part. Am excited to get season 2 now.

Schitt’s Creek – have seen so many people giving this show good reviews that I had to look it up on Netflix. Not too bad, but I’m not sure what all the hype is about. I’m only about 5 episodes into the first season though, so I won’t judge too harshly yet.

The V Word – one of the Masters of Horror short movies. I love these things because they’re usually really good horror smushed into 45 minutes or so. My favorite is still Pick Me Up.

Above Suspicion season 3 – I like the Anna Travis novels, so this has been a good series to watch.

Oh, and Troy and I binged the last two seasons of Killjoys because we were bored. I forgot how much I love that show.

Didn’t watch as much as I usually do, mostly because my husband has been home most of the month.

Next on the list:

I picked up The Silent Patient to read last night, plus I also have The Fifth Season I’m supposed to read for a book group. After that, I’m not sure what I’ll pick up after that.

I need to finish watching Mental, a really good TV series about a psych unit in a hospital. I also have an anime that I bought called Maquia. Oh, and a movie from Netflix called The Invisible. Now, to find the time…

Anyway, as you can see, I have one boring ass life. On the bright side, I’ve been getting a lot of writing done.
