A Million Reasons Reason #112 (Romani Detective Original Fiction)
Title: A Million Reasons Reason #112
Fandom: Romani Detective Original Fiction
Pairing: Gen (pre-relationship)
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 327
Summary: Andrej is recounting all the reasons why Zayne is an awful partner.
Author's Note: Written for the numbers challenge at 1_million_words. Started at number 112. Inspired by the song Million Reasons by Lady Gaga. I think of Andrej every time I hear this song simply because Zayne (and James, let's be real) gives him a million reasons to say 'to hell with it' but all he really needs is one good reason to stay. I hope to keep on with this for the rest of the prompts that I have. Hit me up with any annoying things Zayne's done (or you suspect he's done) that you'd like to see immortalized here. Hahaha.
I've got a hundred million reasons to walk away
But baby, I just need one good one to stay
Reason #112
Andrej looked at the empty desk across from him. Zayne was late. Again. Hadn’t even had the courtesy to call and say he was running behind. Which really shouldn’t surprise him, honestly. Zayne only did what was good for Zayne, to hell with everyone else.
The thing that bugged him the most, he supposed, was that Hilary had been at the station when he arrived. So, where was Zayne?
“It is not important,” he lied to himself. “It only matters that you are here, and you are doing your job.”
As if. Zayne always mattered and that pissed him off. He’d known from day one that crushing on his handsome partner wasn’t going to give him anything but heartache. And the occasional bout of heartburn, but that was something else.
When he was around, Zayne was the best partner he could have ever asked for. Smart, with a great gut instinct, he was one of the best detectives Andrej had ever worked with. Thing was, he had a bad habit of showing up late or, on occasion, not at all. And that made Andrej want to request a transfer. Or a new partner. Something.
At the sound of a familiar laugh, he looked up and saw Zayne headed his way. Finally. Good lord, it was about damn time.
Every time he thought he was done, ready to trade Reyes in for a newer, more reliable model, he caught sight of those amazing green eyes, or caught a whiff of his partner’s spicy skin and his resolve melted away.
Fuck, but he had it bad.
Andrej shook his head and pulled a notepad out of his desk. Inside, he scribbled, Unreliable and unremorseful. Reason number one hundred twelve why Zayne is a lousy partner.
Sad thing was, all he needed was one damn good reason to stay.
