Ambivert (Preying Eyes Original Fiction)
Title: Ambivert
Fandom: Preying Eyes Original Fiction
Pairing: Adrien Lupei/Elliot deacon
Rating: G
Word Count: 394
Summary: Elliot thinks on his personality vs. Adrien’s.
Author’s Note: Written for the word of the day challenge at 1_million_words. The word was ambivert.
There were all kinds of people in the world, Elliot thought. He was definitely an extrovert. As a detective, he needed to be in order to do his job well and not let the people he interviewed intimidate him. The ability to be able to initiate conversations and not be afraid of rejection was something imperative to detective work. Adrien, on the other hand, wasn’t.
Adrien had been accused of being an extrovert on occasion. Truth be told, he’d been accused of being an attention whore, but that was another conversation altogether, one Elliot didn’t want to get into. The general public assumed that if you were in the spotlight that you were automatically looking for attention. It never seemed to occur to them that maybe he simply enjoyed making music. Or liked making others happy.
When they’d first met, Elliot had thought the same thing about Adrien. But the more time they spent together, the more Elliot came to realize that Adrien fell somewhere between an introvert and an extrovert. Dante had told him it was called being an ambivert, but Elliot was never sure whether Adrien’s uncle was yanking his chain or being serious. It was hard to tell with Dante.
But whatever the truth, it fit Adrien to a ‘T’. When necessary, he could be outgoing and gregarious, a natural charmer with a love of life that was unmatched. It was a big part of why his fans loved him, Elliot thought. That and the fact that the boy was gorgeous didn’t hurt. On the other hand, when Adrien was done touring, or simply taking a break from the road for a few days, he had a tendency to withdraw into himself. It was an act of self-preservation, Elliot thought. A way to recharge and prepare himself for reentry into the real world.
It was an odd combination, one that often frustrated Elliot when Adrien’s moods fluctuated, but he couldn’t imagine his boyfriend being any other way. If he were honest with himself, he found it comforting knowing that his partner in life was so able to adjust to whatever he needed when he needed it.
He was awfully damn lucky, he knew. Looking at Adrien, asleep on the couch, he smiled. Hopefully, this time, the relationship would last. So far, so good, but who knew what the future might bring?
