Day 10 (I counted): June 2, 2021

There's going to be a tiny rant at the beginning of this, so feel free to 'skip to the end' if you please.

Today's Workout: Transform 20: Week 2 - Stronger. Getting there, little by little, Shaun.

Rant: So, apparently *fans* are up in arms regarding the casting for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Sandman. Trouble is, they're telling Neil Gaiman - THE FREAKING AUTHOR/CREATOR - that his casting is off. Death shouldn't be played by a black person, Desire shouldn't be non-binary. I'm sorry, I do not care if you think you are Annie Wilkes (Misery) level of superfan, YOU DO NOT GET TO TELL SOMEONE HOW TO CAST CHARACTERS THEY CREATED. On the bright side, Neil is telling them all to fuck all the way off and that he's going to do what he wants. Hah.

Sidebar: I think I must have watched three seasons of Lucifer before I ever saw the note in the opening credits that the show was based off a series created by Neil Gaiman. More and more reason to love his messy ass, I guess.

Time for today's *cough* personal development *cough* question.

Assuming you name inanimate objects, what are some names for inanimate objects you own or have owned? (i.e. cars, computers, shoes, etc.)

I name everything. My iPod had many names - Ali, Roderick, Murphy, among others. My last cellphone was named Zeklos. My current phone is called Lucy. My Kindle is named Reyes. My Kobo doesn't have a name, but it'd definitely be Jay if I was able to change it's name. (It's small, slim, and pretty basic, which is James in a nutshell. LOL) I have an immersion circulator (sous vide) and the app required me to name it before I could use it, so it's Trish. I have a new laptop and it's going to need a name, too, but I haven't really thought about what to call it. Maybe Jake because it is kinda slick.

Taylor names the cats' toys. She also names her succulents. One was Petra, but Petra died. Petra also turned out to be one of the hardest succulents for a beginner to care for, so there is that. The one she has now that's doing really well has a name, but I couldn't tell you what it is. She acquired two more on Monday when we went to Lowe's, but she hasn't named them yet. One is a zebra striped plant and I had a couple suggestions, but I kept them to myself. Naming a plant Zayne might backfire on us.

I'm not sure if Maddie does this or not. If she does, she doesn't talk about it as much as Taylor does.

The real question is why do I do this? I mean, I know why I name my Kindle - because it's easier to figure out which device I'm looking at when I'm on Amazon's website (is it the app on my phone? My Kindle? Troy's Kindle? My PC?). But the rest of my devices? No idea. I also don't tend to name my cars. My old Dodge Ram was 'the old girl' because she was exactly that. But my Jeep? No name currently.

What about you? Do you name inanimate objects?

Yep, I name them all the time, though I am not by any means consistent or even logical, and sometimes it's downright lazy. My first laptop was Toppy (went with Kaige's Lappy! LOL), and the one I use now is called Maude (for no apparent reason). My iPod is Ipoddy (so very original), and my phones have been Alex (after Alex O'Laughlin), and something else that escapes me, and now I have Fred Flynstone (I use 'Fred' as a kind of alias for fun, and Flynstone for obvious reasons, I think?). I love when that comes up as I Bluetooth! My camera is called Matthew (after the very gorgeous Matthew Daddario from Shadowhunters), and I sort-of call one of our cars Bluey (it's a blue Holden Spark), although the Holden Captiva does not have a name (Whitey does not have the same ring!).

Plants often have names in our house, although I don't consider them inanimate objects since they are all alive! I haven't personally named any of them, but N2D definitely named most of hers!

LOL! I'm not sure there is anything logical about naming things. :D I had to go through a lengthy explanation about my phone's name the first time one of my kids was in the car with me and it said 'connected to Lucy'. (Lucy being the sentient ship on Killjoys). I'd hate to have to explain why my Kindle is named Reyes.

I like that you name your cars though! Makes me think of that Nicholas Cage movie where he has this car he's never been able to steal called Eleanor. And... I'm totally drawing a blank on the name.

I don't consider plants inanimate objects either, but they're not mobile generally (unless Sunny has gotten to it), nor do they talk back, so I thought they fit the category in a way. I generally only go as far as Mr. Basil or Mrs. Eggplant when it comes to naming them. LOL

LOL, true! I don't have to explain too often, thankfully! being a family of geeks helps!

Is it Gone in 60 Seconds? I don't think I've watched it, but my Hubby has a bit of a man-crush on Nic Cage, plus it's about cars! LOL!

True enough! I can't say I really talk to mine, but I know it's supposed to be good for them! Maybe I should take it up and name them too! ;-)

My kids just want to know WHY THIS NAME MOM? LOL

Yes! That was it. I kind of love Nic Cage, as weird and messy as he is. It's actually a really good movie, you might like it if you watch it.

I talk to everything — my kids, the cats, my electronics, so why not my plants, too? :D
