Cats...

Or rather, one cat in particular.

Nayla's getting older - she'll be 11 this year - and so she's started having issues.  Nothing major, but she was vomiting more often than she had before.  When it got to be three or four times a week, I thought she needed a trip to the vet, becuase that's worrisome.

So, Tuesday, we went to the vet and he wasn't sure what could be causing the issue and suggested blood tests.  I had expected this, so I agreed.  What I hadn't planned on was him thinking she had something in her intestine/colon, so he asked if he could do x-rays just in case.  Again, she's getting older so I agreed.  He didn't think whatever was in her colon was a mass - he even got another vet to give his opinion - so that was a relief.  But we still needed to wait on the blood work.

He calls me Wednesday to say that her blood work was great, so huge sigh there.  Her kidneys - which was my main concern - look good.  There was something a little off with her liver, but he said it wasn't worrisome and totally normal.  Okay, great.  But, she did have a UTI.  Great.  A UTI is treatable and I have some experience with it thanks to Violet.  It was rather amusing.  He says, "I can call you in an oral antibiotic or you can bring her over and we'll give her a shot."  Um... WHEN CAN I BE THERE?  LOL

Long story short, I had Maddie meet me at the vet yesterday with MIss Nayla in tow to get her antibiotic shot.  That cat's lucky I love her so much because this has been the most expensive UTI ever.

Nayla hates car rides.  Here is a video I took right after I buckled her carrier into the front seat of my Jeep on Tuesday.  Note: the car isn't on and we're still in the garage.

Yesterday, the office cat, Ace, came to let her know she was in good hands.

The lady checking me out on Tuesday told me he was very curious about her when she was getting her x-rays and blood taken.  Kept creeping over to say hello.  LOL

As you can see, she was much happier last night.  Climbed up into the cat tree and took a nap.

Lastly, Violet always sleeps under my bed at night, so I put a blanket down for her comfort.  Last night, I bent down to tell Violet good night and found Sunny in her spot.  When I went to get my phone to take a picture, I came back to this:

These animals are something else, I'm telling you.

Murphy used to scream so loud and so long that you'd think we were skinning him alive. He did this AS soon as you brought the carrier out. When we moved from NJ to Georgia... I had to drug him because otherwise he would have screamed the entire trip.

The 3 I have now seem rather resigned to the carriers and rides.

Man, when Violet had ear mites and I had to take her and Nayla to the vet at the same time... it was a chorus of MOW... mew! MOW! Mew!

Was probably better for you both to sedate him, honestly.

That's helpful when they're not afraid. Violet and Sunny were both adopted from rescues, so they were used to being in their carriers. Buddy used to curl up in his if it was left out. Nayla doesn't resist too much, but she's not happy about it either.

LOL we take all 3 at the same time so all the wailing is over in a day.

It really was. He was very drugged the day we arrived because I had to give him a second dose.

That's good. They were pissed about going in this time so I got some scratches.

Thing is, Sunny kept scratching at her ears, so we took her in. Neither of the other two showed any signs. Vet said, "If one has them, they all have them" and recommended I bring the other two in. Only reason why we weren't toting all three.

Aw, poor guy, but definitely for the best.

Ouch. Nayla was hilarious. Vet took her out of the carrier, put her on the scale. She sat there for a second and then curled up and took a nap on the scale. LOL

Ugh yeah hate when that happens. The only time I remember bringing just one was when Roscoe almost stopped breathing. So yeah.

It really was.

ROTFL that is hysterical. Mine just tend to be really sweet after I've warned the tech that they'll be jerks.

Poor Roscoe!

She's just at that age where the path of least resistance is her goal. Plus, the vet kept telling her how pretty she was so she was basking in the glow. Hahaha. That's usually how things go. :D

Poor Roscoe who spent today and yesterday at the vets. They found an abscess today and lanced it. So now he's locked in my mom's bathroom for the next 10 days.

LOL yeah that makes sense.

Poor Roscoe. Hope he's feeling better.

Now that he's no long locked up, he's great. Called the vet last Monday and she said he could be out of the room for the week and then allowed back outside on Friday. So he's a super happy kitty, but we did have a few days of him screaming because he wasn't allowed outside.

It really is. His incision is still healing, but he's doing well.

[identity profile] shanachie-quill.livejournal.com 2023-07-08 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes I'm glad he's back to his whiney self.

[identity profile] asphaltcowgrrl.livejournal.com 2023-07-11 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)

Aw, best way to know they're better. :D

It is. Rosce is doing fantastic.

Unfortunately, we noticed that Hades wasn't eating, didn't even have any interest and was just laying around. He'd also scream any time I picked him up. Mom took him to the vet on Wednesday when she took my sister's cat (we're cat sitting for the foreseeable future). My vet ran some tests and his entire body was shutting down (he had lukiemia). We went and said good-bye yesterday after I got out of work.
