Happy New Year, Writing Goals and Other Meaningless Crap

So, first and foremost, Happy New Year!  Congrats on making it through one more revolution around the sun!  Let me just say, there were a few times when I wasn't certain I was going to make it through last year.

But, thankfully I did, becuase today is a rather momentous occasion.  My baby is now thirteen.  Holy crap, how did that happen?  Where did my little girl go?

(And let's not even get into the fact that my other child will be FIFTEEN in a month.)

Lastly, I figure I ought to put my writing goals into print somewhere, so I can be held accountable.  This last year, I wrote over 240,000 words and posted a little over 220,000 to my journal here.  That's actually pretty good for me, to be quite honest.  So, I figure a good set of goals for me this coming year would be these:

1. Write 300k words over the course of the  year.  An increase of almost 50k.

2. Post 250k words over the course of the year.  An increase of almost 25k.

3. Finish at least one full-length fic in my new original world.  This might be rough, because I have a lot of research to do, but I think it's possible.

4.  I don't know... yet.  But something.  I want to do something new this year.

Wish me luck!

I really like the fact that you've put these out there. I have one in the reading arena but I haven't really thought about the writing ones.... word quantity has never been an issue, but you may know that ;)

Happy Birthday to your baby! I still scratch my head as to where time goes....

It's funny, I was watching something on how to keep your new year's resolutions and one of them was don't tell anyone. Which, when you think about it, makes sense. But in this case, even if I don't make my goals, no harm done. Anything written is a step forward.

Hah. Yeah, that's definitely not a problem for you at all! What's your reading goal? I set myself up for 75 books this year, so we'll see how that goes.

Aw, thank you. I know though. My niece will be 18 in April and graduating... To quote Kenny Chesney, "Trust me friend a hundred years goes faster than you think - So don't blink."

Well, it's two books a month. And you are my muse on that so you can kick my ass appropriately along the way ....

Don't blink! :)

Hah! I'll give you this bit of advice: since you're not a reader by nature, don't kill yourself by trying to devour two 400-page books a month (although, if you keep reading Debra Webb you might be okay - I find her Faces of Evil books to be quick reads). Find some nice, 100-150 page eBooks and have fun with it.

Amen to that!

Right. That series seems as if I can burn through it. Helps that I like it! (and if I stumble across some spicy m/m porn I bet I can get that book count right up there ...;)

I read like the first four or five in four weeks. LOL

(Heh. If I ever get my review books, I'll let you know if I have any good leads...)

*fingers crossed*

You can totally do this!!

Thank you! I'm certainly going to give it a shot. :)

I have about a hundred pages left - so good! Thanks for such a great rec.

I could really use some good m/m porn. Lots of plot. Maybe crime. Maybe ... a big bad ass falling in love with a really sweet guy?

Eh. The last bit ... I'll hold out hope I guess! :)

Yay! And they get better, too. I have a bit of a disturbing crush on The Player, however.

Let's see, two of my three arrived last night. They are Copping an Attitude and Caught on Tape. Hopefully I'll be able to recommend them!

(oh, no, not the Player! Yikes...) :)

Yay!!!! Copping an Attitude sounds exactly like what I'm looking for - sold, baby! The other one ... the book jacket was written in a rather quirky writing style.

Question on the first one: it says Book 2, but the jacket reads as a stand alone story. Is it safe to assume that the first book was about a separate story of men in uniform? (assuming of course that you read that!)

Hah - and based upon your previous note, I like the fact that Copping doesn't have a cover page with two men raping each other! Hahahahah! Looks innocent enough .... heh.

(Hahaha... yeah, I can't help it. He's evil and charming all in one.)

It really caught my attention, too! Yes, a lot of authors are doing series that don't have to be read in order. There tend to be a few crossover characters, but you don't always have to read the previous book(s) to understand what's going on in that particular one. The first is All Fired Up and is about firefighter.

ROFL - that's funny that you mention that though becuase the quirky style is why I picked it. :)

LMAO. Yeah, no traumatizing my kids with my book selections, huh? I'll keep ya updated on my books. (Amusingly enough, the one I'm waiting for is by the same author of the other book we discussed. Hah.

OMG! I totally know what you mean about the time thing. My eldest turned 18 this year and left school. I just can't wrap my head around that! And my youngest will be 13 this year too, so I know where you're at! (she looks like a sweetie, btw, hope she remains it through teen years!)

Wow, your word count is incredible, but I'm sure you can make the new raised goals! Good luck. I've had to revise my own goals down because 2014 was a bit of a failure and I just don't want to let things get out of hand. I'm aiming for 100K written, and as much posted as gets posted. I will be glad if I manage to finish some of the (far too) many WIPs and don't start any more!

And if I could just get on with the jobs I set myself for my time off work (already five days in and no words and not nearly enough jobs done before I go away at the weekend) that would be great!

That's right - I remember your post about that. Thankfully, I have a couple years before I have to deal with that. My older girl will be 15 next month. UGH. (Aw, thank you - she can be moody, but she's a good kid.)

Thank you! It's a lot for me, so I was happy. I made sure not to up the goals by too much, just in case. I think that sounds like a good goal though. Write as much as you can, post as much as you're able, and you'll be fine. Either way, writing is writing, no matter how many words you make.

Hah! Yeah, I totally know what you mean by that. You have the best of intentions and then life intervenes.
