Fun with Languages

Today on Duolingo...

I completed the section on adjectives this morning and ran into a couple of tranlsations that made me laugh.  The first made me grin because DUH we knew this.

It annoys me that it makes me translate Andrei and Ana to Andrew and Anne because... they're names (not to mention I'd never put an 'e' on the end of Ann, but whatever).  There are Americans named Andrei and Ana!  But I'm also very fond of ethnicly spelled names (so says the girl with the most boring name in the history of names) so maybe I'm just jaded.

Anyway... then there's this little gem.

I didn't crop out the 'You are correct' just on the off chance ya'll think I'm screwing with you.  I mean, you'd think SOMEONE would recognize this as being a little um... chuckle worthy or something.  But then, maybe I shouldn't be translating sentences at 5 AM either.  *shrugs*

Duolingo also tried to tell me that the apples were big and attractive and I don't even know what to think about that one.  I did learn one interesting thing though.  The Romanian word for green is the same as it is in Spanish - verde.  That's one less word Andy needs to learn, I suppose.

So, I desperately need to get some writing done today and hopefully, now that things have slowed down, I can manage that this afternoon.  I probably should keep better track of these oddball sentences because they could be a lot of fun in a fic sometime down the road. :D
