Update: September 8, 2023
For a short week, this week sure has dragged its feet.
Nothing exciting happening here this week. Maddie’s struggling to get back into the swing of classes, but she’ll get there. She’s not a morning person, just like her dad, but she adapts better than he ever did. Taylor’s had two interviews at different hospitals and I’m really hoping that she gets a job at one of them.
As for me, it’s the same ol, same ol’. Working and going home to my cats and sometimes even my kids. But that’s okay, I kind of like a quiet life.
What have I been watching:
Finished up A Bit of Fry and Laurie and moved on to the final season of No Offence. It was a sad season, due to plot lines and the fact that it’s the last. It was a great little crime show with a lot of sassy characters. Taylor and I started a show called The Night Agent on Netflix and it’s been really good so far.
Not sure what I’m going to start next. I keep saying The Lincoln Lawyer and then I get sad because I don’t want it to be over so soon. Side note:
kaige68 – it’s been renewed for a third season I saw!
What I’ve been reading:
Finished four books this week:
Todos Estamos Conectados: A Cuidarnos Unos A Otros Y A La Tierra by Gabi Garcia. I needed to read a book by a Latinx author to complete a badge for the Kindle Summer Reading Challenge. So, I found a children’s book in Kindle Unlimited and thought, “Hey, let’s try the Spanish version!” Dumbass. 🤣 All I can say is, “Thank you, Google Translate!”
‘Til Death: The Man Who Balked by Jason Anspach. The last in a fun little private eye series set in the 1950’s. The last two didn’t quite hold up to the first, but I liked the baseball theme in this one.
All Systems Red by Martha Wells. I’ve read this before, but it was also eligible for one of the Kindle Reading Challenge badges. LOL Plus, it’s just a fun little story.
The Dark Corners of the Night by Meg Gardiner. This is the 3rd in the UNSUB series. I got hooked on this series a couple of years ago and it’s fabulous. The stories are intense and engaging. Somehow, I managed to get approved for an ARC of the next book, due out in October. So, I needed to get this one read first.
What I’m reading now:
The Silence by Kendra Elliot. This is for one of my online book groups, but I read the first in this series a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. I’m about ¾ of the way through this one and am liking it, too.
Time to Shine by Rachel Reid. A random ARC I requested and was approved for. It’s a m/m hockey romance (paging
cmk418) that releases later this month. Not very far into it yet, but so far, I’m liking the main character.
I should finish The Silence this weekend. Anxiously awaiting my pre-order of Cody Rigsby’s new memoir, which releases on Tuesday. That will be my next audiobook. Hahaha.
Think that’s about it. I’ve not been writing at all, which is a big ol pile of whatever. I keep hoping to get back at it and keep getting lured away by books. And kittens.
Oh, speaking of which, the kittens are doing well. They’ve gotten so big but are still so teeny! Violet and even Sunny are starting to interact with them more, playing here and there. Violet will even give them a few licks if they stand still long enough. Maybe I’ll do a cat post this weekend. Let’s see if I remember.
Happy Friday everyone!

Quiet living is just fine.
You were the one who got me started with hockey fic with one of her novels. And actually, I was just on Amazon this morning looking for something new to read and saw that book. And then saw that I had pre-ordered it in April. LOL. You'll have to let me know how it is. Her "Game Changers" series is pretty good — "Heated Rivalry" (which is the first book you suggested I read) has a sequel "The Long Game", but my favorite of the series is "Role Model".
Looking forward to seeing your kitty pics!

AGREED!
OMG, I had totally forgotten about that! Now that's friggen hysterical. So far, I'm enjoying it. Casey reminds me of me — constantly yapping and not shutting up despite knowing that he's annoying everyone. 🤣 But I'll let you know!
I have that series on my TBR, am looking forward to starting it, too. With hockey season getting ready to start, I might have to dive in.
Thanks! I have so many. Hahaha.

Awww kitties! I'm glad they are all getting along.

I liked it a lot, too! Really want to get to the rest of the series now. Love it when one little book breaks you out of a slump like that.
They are finally! Well, except the boys who are either eating, sleeping, or fighting but... that's brothers for you. :D

Kitty post! I vote yes. :). I mean, if there is time.
I've been re-watching The Good Place as my dinner time TV show, and decided I need to read "What We Owe to Each Other" by T.M. Scanlon. Unfortunately, neither library has it so...Amazon to the rescue. I should have it in a couple of days. I wonder how much this philosopher has made since his work was featured, and if he watched the show at all.

I spaced it this weekend, but there is a kitty post up now!
I've been trying to convince Taylor to watch The Good Place with me, but she refuses for some reason. I think she'd love it. Oh, that would be interesting to read while watching the show. Bummer that neither of your libraries had it, but yay for Amazon!

I can't imagine not getting a kick out of that show. It's just.... so damn good. But my sister doesn't at all. She tried it, hated it. *shrug*
Heads to look for the kitty post....

I think she'll love it, but she doesn't want to watch it with me because I've already seen it. Which... I don't understand, but whatever, kid. LOL
Too bad your sister didn't enjoy it. I laughed and cried and just really enjoyed the whole series.

YAY for season 3! (I'm still not into season 2 yet. I'm a bad fangirl)
I have 82 minutes left of ‘Til Death: The Man Who Balked, I still don't like Frank. I will reserve complete judgement until I've finished it. I will finish tonight.

Don't feel bad, I haven't watched it yet, either. Oops.
Yeah, Frank has these moments where he's so close to getting it and... then he snaps out of it. UGH. You'll finish it! I have faith!
I'm back to listening to the Re: Dracula podcast while I'm waiting for Cody's book to drop in the morning. :D

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH Cody's book! is he narrating himself?
no subject
YES! I put that thing on preorder the second I confirmed he was narrating!

I need to get back to my reading. I'm halfway through a book I've been reading since about April
no subject
Hahaha. I have one that took me close to 8 years to finish, so don't feel bad!
