2023 Icon/Drabble Challenge Days 1-5
I don't know why all of these prompts are making me think of Zayne today. Made myself divert a couple of times.
Also, it seems like the more of these I wrote, the longer they got and the less able I was to edit them down. I gave up trying on the last one.
Day 1: cookies, home, only for tonight, long slow kisses, white
Romani Detective - Andrej/Zayne - 100 words
He thought he’d never have another home, not after leaving his family behind years before. But he finally had one, a real one. One that was full of love and hope. No white picket fence, but there were fresh cookies sometimes and always lots of long, slow, kisses. Sometimes, there were fights, too, but they were always resolved. Eventually. It had made him realize that he’d been wrong in thinking that working for a stable relationship wasn’t worth it. He knew differently now. And when Zayne looked at all he’d earned – really worked for – he was both proud and grateful.
Day 2: keep it secret, smile, hands, no shame, aqua
Romani Detective - Andrej/Zayne - 100 words
“Can we keep this just between us,” he asked. “For now? Until… until I’m more comfortable?”
“Of course,” Andrej replied, trailing his hands down Zayne’s back, a goofy smile his reward.
“Thank you,” Zayne said. “It’s not that I’m ashamed, we both know that I don’t know the meaning of the word but…” He shrugged.
“You want to keep it secret for a while longer,” Andrej guessed.
“Just for a bit,” he said, getting lost in Andrej’s blue eyes. “Sometimes, things are better when they’re yours and yours alone.”
“I could not agree more,” Andrej sighed, leaning into Zayne’s body.
Day 3: too tempting to resist, blood, trust, hands on man, black
The Witcher - Jaskier + Geralt - 100 words
Jaskier tried not to stare, it wasn’t his way. But sometimes, he simply could not help himself.
It didn’t matter if the witcher was covered in blood and gore, the man was too tempting to resist. The long, flowing hair, the broad shoulders, the firm – well. And he would not entertain the idea of how those black pants clung to the witcher’s thighs. That was something else.
It was not the time to be thinking about how much of a hands on man Geralt was. It was time for strategy and figuring out who to trust and who to avoid.
Day 4: yours truly, honeymoon, lingerie, the love song, chocolate
Preying Eyes - Adrien/Elliot - 200 words
Adrien strummed his guitar, watching Elliot sleeping on the couch. Neither of them had had anything close to a real vacation in years so, when offered this little getaway, they’d jumped. Or rather, they’d been pushed. Adrien by his mother; Elliot by his partner, Damon.
Either way, here they were on what his mother had jokingly called their honeymoon. Elliot had been worried that, when Adrien opened his suitcase, he was going to find some frilly piece of lingerie courtesy of his Uncle Dante. It was just the kind of thing that his uncle would do.
Elliot murmured quietly, making Adrien smile. He popped a bit of chocolate into his mouth and thought about the song he’d been working on. It hadn’t started out as a love song, but had turned in that direction. How could it not, when he was alone in the woods with the man he loved more than anyone else?
If Elliot knew he was the subject of Adrien’s next possible big hit, he’d be horrified. And embarrassed. Which is why Adrien would never, not in a million years, tell him. He wasn’t one to keep secrets, but this wasn’t something Elliot needed to know. Ever.
Day 5: I can’t sleep without you, capable, breathless, I can’t have nothing nice, cornflower blue
Romani Detective - Zayne/James + Andrej - 252 words
“This is why we can’t have nice things,” James grunted, picking porcelain off the floor.
“It was an accident, narco,” Zayne said. And it had been. He’d never intentionally break one of Zek’s mugs, especially not his favorite one with the little blue cornflowers on it. “I’m perfectly capable of doing the dishes.”
“Apparently not,” he scolded, holding up a piece of the broken mug.
“Know what? You can finish the dishes if you’re going to be a prick about this,” Zayne yelled. He threw his towel onto the counter and stormed off into the bedroom he shared with Zeklos. It was the only thing he had on the narco and he was going to hold onto it as tight as he could.
He laid down on the bed and tried to close his eyes, but sleep didn’t come. It never did when Zek wasn’t near. Funny thing was, he never had trouble sleeping alone until he’d moved in with his boyfriend. Now, it was impossible to sleep without Zeklos at his side. It made him worry for his future, for that day when he mucked it all up so badly that Zek wanted nothing more to do with him.
Zayne silently prayed that Zek wouldn’t be angry about the mug, that he’d forgive the accidental carelessness that caused its demise. Breathless with worry, he closed his eyes and tried to calm his nerves. Only an hour until Zeklos returned. Maybe the narco would disappear in a puff of smoke before then.
Also, it seems like the more of these I wrote, the longer they got and the less able I was to edit them down. I gave up trying on the last one.

These are great! I love Zayne's breakthrough in the first one. You go, Zayne, figuring ...stuff out. Ha. Bit of a backslide on day five, but hey — he's getting there.
And who can blame Jaskier?

I feel for the cowboy. Maybe he'll finally get a clue.
Jaskier has a very nice view. Now if the witcher would wise up and jump him, then all will be right with the world.
