People Suck
Apr. 20th, 2021 02:02 pmI got an email from our payroll company saying someone's filed a fraudulent unemployment claim in the name of one of our employees. John's been working for the company since 1984. He's not being fired anytime soon.
While I'm talking to John about how to file a claim with the DETR (state unemployment division), I get ANOTHER email, this time for James, stating the same thing. UGH.
Is this why the conservatives are saying that people are making more off unemployment than working? Seriously though, in all the years I've worked here, I'd never had this come up until last year. Since them, we've had about 6 of these. Thank heavens for our payroll company catching them though.
On the bright side, I had to schedule a medical gas (oxygen, nitrogen, that kind of thing) inspection for one of our jobs. For better or for worse, in Henderson, I have to actually call and speak to one of the two senior fire inspectors to do this (in the City, the County, and in North Las Vegas, I can do it all online). On the bright side, I have a great relationship with both of them. On the down side, because of this, they love to harass me. Case in point, I called today, they answered and, out of nowhere, he asked, "Why are you always laughing? Have you started drinking?" LOL
This is the guy who insists he's my favorite fire inspector, too.
There isn't always a lot of joy in my job, but sometimes I get a good damn laugh out of it all.
