“Hey Reyes,” James called out, passing the homicide detective on his way into narcotics. “What’s – wait, what the hell?”

James grabbed Zayne by the arm and tugged him closer, causing the Texan to bump into two female officers off to start their day.

“Sorry,” Zayne called after them.

One, a blonde, turned back and winked. “You know you enjoyed it, Reyes.”

He grinned. “What the heck, Rosewood,” Zayne grunted. “I would have stopped, you didn’t have to drag me across the hallway for heaven’s sake.”

James pointed at Zayne’s ear. “What the hell is that and when did you get it.”

Zayne’s smile broadened. His fingers fluttered up to his ear, toying with the little gold hoop in the lobe. “This? Oh… I’ve had it for a while now. You never noticed? Rude.”

“No way.” James shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. “You have not. I think I know every inch of your body at this point, cowboy and I’m certain you never had an earring before.”

“Never?”

“Positive.”

“Really,” Zayne drawled.

“Relatively positive,” James clarified.

Zayne crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall. “What about my nipple ring?”

“Nipple,” James began before the words stuck in his throat. He lifted a hand, palm outward. “No. That I absolutely know is not possible. Andy would have had a crisis of conscience if you’d gotten your nipple pierced.”

Reyes lowered his arms so that his forearms rested just below the line of his pectorals. “Maybe he’s the one who suggested I get it.”

James’ mouth fell open.

“I didn’t think your pasty ass could get any whiter, narco,” Zayne teased. “But I think you just lost a shade of color.”

“Shut up,” James snapped. “You’re not allowed to tease me about my skin tone. We’re not all blessed with such golden-brown coloring.”

“You sound jealous.”

“Maybe I’d like to go outside for more than five minutes at a time during the summer, cowboy. It isn’t easy being a redhead in the desert!” James rubbed a hand across his face. “Please tell me you’re joking about the nipple ring.”

“Aw, and here I thought you’d be excited. I can show you.” He reached for the hem of his shirt.

“Reyes, no,” James shouted. One arm flew out to stop Zayne from pulling his shirt over his head in the middle of the station’s main hallway.

“Oh, right,” Zayne said, nodding. “You want to go into the locker room? I can show you there.”

“No,” James said, flustered. “As much as I want you naked right now, this is not the time nor the place. Good lord.”

Zayne laughed. “Should we find a better place then? I’m open to suggestions.”

“I –” James’ shoulders slumped, and he looked at the floor. “You know you’ll get into trouble for that, right?” He pointed at Zayne’s ear. “I mean for that. Unless you’re also screwing one of the ladies in human resources I’m not sure how anyone would ever know about… about…”

“My nipple ring,” he finished for the redhead.

“Yeah,” James hedged. “That.”

“You sure you don’t want to see, Rosewood?”

“Positive,” he said, looking away from Zayne. “Does Andy know?”

“I told you,” Zayne said. “He’s the one who told me to get it done.”

“Both of them?”

Zayne nodded. “Yup, it was his idea.”

“What was whose idea,” Andrej asked, stopping a safe distance from his two boyfriends.

James turned a confused face to him. “Why on earth would you encourage him?”

Andrej blinked. “You know very well that I spend the majority of my time discouraging him from everything. He does not often do anything that I would want repeated.”

“He got his nipple pierced, Andy,” James shouted, causing several milling officers to stop and stare. When they saw that one of the members of the discussion group was Reyes, they shrugged and went back to their day. “And his damn ear!”

“Jay…” Andrej said before catching sight of Zayne’s earlobe. “This is not real.” He tugged the clip on earring off Zayne’s lobe and held it out towards James.

“It’s not?” James leaned in closer and shook his head. “How did I not notice that?”

“Because you let him get you excited –”

“Yeah, he does,” Zayne chuckled.

“Zayne, behave,” Andrej scolded. “You take him too seriously even though you know he is very rarely ever serious.”

James glared at Zayne for a hard minute. “And the nipple ring?”

“I lied,” Zayne said, shrugging. He reached for the hem of his shirt again and, before either of the detectives could stop him, he’d pulled it up and over his head, baring his caramel skin and washboard abs.

“Asshole,” James snarled. “I’ll get you back for this. And to think I was worried you were going to get busted for being non-complaint with the dress code!” He stomped off towards narcotics.

Andrej looked at his partner. Zayne’s snorting laughter was filling the hallway. “Zayne, please put your shirt back on. That will definitely get you a dress code violation.”

“No, please,” a passing female officer said. “Don’t rush.”

Her partner rolled his eyes. “Thanks for nothing, Reyes,” he said. “Now I have to go to the gym tonight.”

“Anytime I can not help, let me know, Berkowitz!”

“Zayne,” Andrej prompted.

“Fine,” Zayne said, returning his shirt to its proper place. “Better?”

“Not really,” Andrej admitted. “But it will make getting work done easier.”

“Yeah, whatever,” Zayne said. “Back to homicide or are we out of here?”

“Homicide,” Andrej said and the two of them entered the flow of people headed in the same direction. “You should not incite Jay like that.”

“I didn’t think it would work,” Zayne confessed. “He’s usually on to my shit long before I can even try to fool him.”

“This is true,” Andrej agreed.

“Are you mad, baby?”

“I am not,” Andrej said, holding open the door for Zayne. “But I am not happy that he is looking for revenge.”

“Eh,” Zayne said, waving away Andrej’s fears. “He’ll go for a henna tattoo and try and make me think it’s real. He’s too predictable too fool me.”

“I hope so,” Andrej said.

“Hey Reyes,” Trish Rollins called from the desk across from Zayne’s. “I hear you got a penis piercing. Is this true?”

“Yaw anna see, red?” He wiggled his eyebrows at her.

“Not particularly but was looking for confirmation either way. Inquiring minds.”

“Sorry honey,” he teased. “I’m sadly all still in one piece.”

“Pity,” Trish said, opening the case file on her desk. “It would make for a great story.”

Zayne looked at Andrej, mouth half formed into a question.

“Do not even think about it, Zayne.”

“Man, you are no fun.”
