Day 6 – Friends

It wasn’t often he needed to lean on other people, but sometimes, his boyfriends got to him and he needed an escape. At least he had non-romantic relationships to lean on.

“Pour another,” Trish said. “He looks like he needs another two or three.”

“I’ll just make this one extra strong,” Hilary replied. “God only knows, I needed them like that when Reyes was my boyfriend.”

“It’s probably the ginger,” Trish said. “We do that to people.”

“Yes, you do,” Hilary teased. “Andy? Drink this, it’ll help.”

Laughing, Andrej took the drink and started to tell them the sordid story.

Day 7 – Waterfall

He stood and watched the water flow before him. It’d been a long time since he’d seen something like this, the water falling from overhead, splashing as it hit the ground, forming a small river by his feet. Sighing, he shook his head in amazement.

“Never thought a broken pipe could dump this much water,” his partner said.

“Yeah, well, if the dumbass maintenance man had thought to use this little thing called a shut off valve when he noticed the leak, it wouldn’t have.” And the pipe might not have broken either, but that was neither here nor there.

Day 8 – Breaking the rules

They were cops, they shouldn’t be breaking the law. Even if it was a misdemeanor, they still shouldn’t be doing it. How Reyes had convinced Andy to go along with this, he didn’t know.

If he thought about it, they were actually committing three misdemeanors, which only tripled his damn anxiety. Trespassing compounded with public intoxication and indecent exposure? If they got caught, they’d lose their badges for sure.

“Relax, gingerbread,” Zayne said with a wicked grin. “Ain’t nobody going to catch us if we’re quiet.”

Right. Quiet. Because drunken sex with these two was something they could do quietly.

Day 9 – Clouds

It was unusually cloudy for the desert, he thought, looking at the sky. Where there was usually nothing but clear, blue sky, today there were big, fluffy clouds. Anywhere else, that might be the harbinger of rain, but not here in the Mojave. You were more likely to get a sandstorm in these parts than a rainstorm.

He sighed and closed his eyes. When he opened them again, a pair of bright, blue eyes stared back at him.

“Off the ground, Reyes,” she said. “I didn’t hit you that hard.”

“But the clouds are pretty, and I was comfortable, Rollins.”

Day 10 – Black and White

“Nothing is ever clear cut,” Travis told Ethan. “Not even in fiction. At least, not in good fiction.”

“Because nothing in rea life is black and white,” Ethan said, understanding where he was coming from.

“Right. Humans are generally pretty morally grey.” He grinned. “At least, the fun ones are.”

“Are you saying that I’m morally grey? Or that I’m a bore? Fess up, Murphy.” Ethan crossed his arms over his chest.

“You, detective, are amazing,” Travis said. “And much too straitlaced for this conversation.”

“And you, Travis, are a liar.” Ethan kissed his goofy husband. “But I love you.”
