I had a rather WTF kind of book reading month. Hahaha.
Goodreads Goal: 50
Current Read: 95
What I read:
Groupie by C. M. Stunich. Er, um, well, this was a rock star reverse harem and I went in not expecting much, but I was surprised to find a half decent story buried in under all those bodies. LOL
The Last Enemy by Pauline Baird Jones. Romantic suspense. An enjoyable story with a bit of a cyber aspect. Although it was funny because this was originally published in the early 90's, so I got a laugh out of the heroine constantly needing to find a landline so she could connect to the internet.
Promise of the Witch-King by R. A. Salvatore. Part of the Sellswords series, an offshoot of the Drizzt novels. Jarlaxle has to be the gayest dark elf I've ever met, but he never fails to make me laugh. His relationship (professional only, sadly) with the assassin Artemis Enteri is a delight.
Corralled by Lorelei James. DNF at about 45%. I don't even know what to say here. I wanted to like this a lot. You have this sassy young woman who works as a medic on the rodeo circuit and has wrangled herself two hot cowboys. They can't decide who she should date so they both decide to date her. Lucky girl, eh? No. The guys are assholes and constantly trying to one-up each other to win her affections. And her? She's useless. She spends more time holding the boys' hands and reassuring them that they're not being slighted. Ugh.
The Vanishing by Jayne Ann Krentz. First of all, thank you to Kaige68 for turning me on to this author and all of her pen names because I loved this! The whole paranormal world, the Fogg Lake mysteries, all of it was fun and interesting.
The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass by Adan Jerreat-Poole. This was a pretty interesting young adult fantasy novel. The characters were well-developed but the world building sucked. Like the earth-realm was fine, because yanno, it's earth. But the other realm? Give me some deets, please.
Ao Haru Ride Volumes 12 & 13. Last two volumes of this manga and I'm sad! But Futuba got her man, so I'm content.
Dracula by Bram Stoker. Started this audio back in October, but it was pretty long so it took some time to get through it. Really enjoyed this long-overdue re-read, especially with the full cast.
The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams. Really cute romance about a ball player trying to win his wife back. My biggest issue with this though was Gavin's wife, Thea. Yeah, Gavin was an idiot, and yeah, he messed up, but girl, did you really need to be that harsh? Especially when it's obvious he's making an effort. Disclaimer: he did not cheat on her. If he had, her reaction to him would have made more sense. In the end though, I did enjoy this.
Ambiguous Relationship by Minase Masara. Another DNF after the first two short stories. I mean, when there are elements of sexual assault in the first two stories in a damn manga? Nope, next!
Remember that TBR list I was trying to knock down? Four of the books I read this month were off that list, so that's some good progress! Now for the other 30 still lingering...
What I'm reading now:
The Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski. I've been meaning to get back to this and am LOVING it. Geralt is so sassy and freaking Dandelion (Jaskier)... he's going to get himself murdered one day. Likely by either Yennefer or Geralt.
Statue of Limitations by Katie Collins. A cozy mystery I'm reading for an online book club.
Jingle All the Slay by Dakota Cassidy. A Christmas themed cozy mystery that I thought was appropriate for the season.
Fortune and Glory by Janet Evanovich (audiobook). I love the Stephanie Plum books and hearing them rather than reading them only makes them ten times funnier for some reason.
I think that's all for the moment. As if that's not enough even if it isn't. Hah!
