Title: Movie Night
Fandom: White Pine Original Fiction
Pairing: Travis Murphy/Ethan McDowell + Brennan and Ryan
Rating: PG
Word Count: 467
Summary: It’s Travis’ turn to pick the movie again and it’s just as bad as Ethan feared.
Author’s Notes: Written for the comment fic challenge at 1_million_words.  Day 10’s prompt was: watching TV.  Two funny things about this: 1) my kid and I watched Ant-Man over the weekend and 2) Paul Rudd is Travis’ body double.  Oh, and 3) it was not intentional, it was just the first movie that came to mind.

Ethan came into the living room, a bowl of fresh popped corn in one hand.  Travis was sprawled on the couch, Brennan curled up on his chest, Ryan sprawled out along the length of his leg.  They looked comfortable, almost too comfortable, really.

“Looks like the three of you are ready for the movie,” Ethan teased.  “Too bad we didn’t choose something more feline-appropriate.”

“Oh hush,” Travis joked, rubbing his thumb against Brennan’s furry cheek.  “The movie’s about to start.”

“I can see that,” he said.  “And I was about to join you when I discovered you failed to save me a spot on the couch.”

Grimacing, Travis moved his leg, causing Ryan to bolt from the couch.  He didn’t go far, just a few feet away, glaring at Ethan as if he’d set the cat’s tail on fire.  “Look,” Travis said, maneuvering himself so that he was still half lounging, but finding enough room for Ethan to join him.  “Plenty of space now.”

Ethan rolled his eyes at Travis but accepted the now empty cushion.  He put the bowl of popcorn onto the coffee table while he got comfortable.  Grabbing one of the pillows that Travis’ mom had given them for the couch, he propped it against his husband and relaxed.  “What did you end up choosing?”

“Oh, you know,” Travis said, vaguely.  “Something we’ll enjoy.

Ryan jumped onto the couch and made his way to Ethan’s stomach, standing for a moment as if looking for a better napping spot.  Deciding that this was as good as it was going to get, the fifteen pound cat settled onto Ethan and began to purr.

He dropped a hand onto the cat’s broad back and gave him a pet.  “Could you be a bit more specific, Murph?”

Travis made a face.  “Ant-Man?”

“Is that a question?”

“No,” Travis sighed.  “It’s a statement, but I was hoping you wouldn’t throw the popcorn at me if I made it sound like a question.”

Ethan chuckled, unable to not be amused by Travis’ reckless endangerment of his ability to choose a movie.  “Fine,” he grumbled good naturedly.  “I can deal with this.  But Thor?  No more of that, okay?”

“Promise,” Travis lied.  “Besides, Paul Rudd’s cuter.”

“I’m going to pretend like I didn’t hear that,” Ethan warned.

“Good thing, too, because the movie’s starting, you spoilsport.”

He settled back against Travis’ body, one half of their feline duo purring loudly on his lap.  One of these days, he was going to have to revoke Travis’ movie choosing privileges since all he seemed to want to watch were superhero flicks.  But, if it gave them time to be together – even if that meant the cats, too – he was willing to sit through Ant-Man.  Again.

Because Travis was right.  Paul Rudd was adorable.
