Title: Cactus and Conundrums
Fandom: White Pine Original Fiction
Pairing: Travis Murphy/Ethan McDowell
Word Count: 228
Rating: PG
Summary: Travis gets caught researching something unusual by Ethan.
Author’s Notes: Written for the three sentence fic challenge at 1_million_words. Day 15’s prompt was: "Who knows where my work will lead me?" I think I did a better job of keeping it under control this time. LOL
“Travis, why are you researching hallucinogenic cacti,” Ethan asked, leaning in over his husband's shoulder to get a better look at the computer screen.
Murphy shrugged. “It’s for my current novel. A guy gets conned into drinking this cocktail at a party and it contains this weird cactus that, when distilled properly, is worse than acid. He then goes on to kill everyone in the room not knowing how or why they died.”
“I – I have no words,” Ethan said, sighing. “Please never commit a crime, okay? I’m not sure that I’m smart enough to figure out how your mind works.”
“That,” Travis said, looking up into Ethan’s bright, green eyes, “is why we get along so well.”
“Yeah, maybe,” Ethan said, kissing the top of Travis’ head. “How does this guy get caught?”
“A coroner who has a side hobby of studying unusual plants figures it out. Then a handsome and dashing detective puts it all together.”
Ethan laughed. “You are nuts, but I love you.”
“I love you, too, Detective.”
“What’s next for you after this,” Ethan asked, always interested in Travis’ next story.
“Hey, after this, who knows where my work – and my muse – will lead me?”
“Never mind where the depths of the internet might lure you,” Ethan joked. “Okay, back to work with you. I’ll let you know when dinner’s ready. Happy writing.”
