Title: Advent Day 23
Fandom: White Pine Original Fic
Pairing: Travis Murphy/Ethan McDowell
Rating: G
Word Count: 280
Summary: A Christmas/New Year’s fic to help bump up the word count for 1_million_words.  Wherein Travis and Ethan muddle their way through December and try to stay on Santa’s Nice List.
Author’s Note: This is short.  Like, really, really short.  But I think it says it all. Also, I need to get back to writing some CL fic.  It makes me sad to switch from my oh-so-pretty Warren icon to Paul Rudd. LOL

Day 23

“How is it you’ve never seen A Christmas Story?”  Travis shook his head and removed the DVD case from the cabinet that housed most of his eclectic collection.

“I don’t know,” Ethan replied, seating himself on the couch, bowl of popcorn on the coffee table.  “My parents weren’t big on movie watching.  Television was pretty much strictly forbidden unless it was on the nightly news or PBS.”

Travis looked up and gave him a sympathetic look.  “How did you survive?”

“The better question is, ‘how did your creativity survive such mindless input?’.”  Ethan grinned at his lover, patting the spot next to him.  “I’m only teasing.  Some TV is okay, but I would much rather have a book in my hand.”

He popped the DVD into the Xbox and took his spot next to Ethan.  “And I thank you for that.  Your continued patronage is appreciated.”

Chuckling, Ethan leaned into Travis’ shoulder, unsure of what to expect next.

Ten minutes in:

“What the hell are we watching again?”

“Shhhhh… it gets better.”

Half an hour in:

“I thought you loved me, Travis.”

“Ethan, it’s not that bad.  Stuff it.”

Approximately halfway through:

“Oh my god you’re… sorry, Travis.  Shutting up now.”

Ten minutes from the end:

“What?  Oh my god.”

“You’re laughing.  Finally.”

“Because this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever watched.  Ever, Travis.”

Five minutes after the credits finish:

“You think we can watch it again… sometime?”

Travis looks at him over his shoulder while he picks up the Xbox controller.  “Sure.  Now good for you?”

Ethan looked at his lap and grinned.  “Can I make some more popcorn first?”

“I’d be disappointed if you didn’t.”

xx

End Note: My fourteen-year-old has been recording every Christmas movie known to man lately.  Just last week, she watched Christmas Vacation and Home Alone for the first time.  I can't believe she'd never seen either. A Christmas Story is next on the list because, it just ain't Christmas without this movie! You'll shoot your eye out!
