Day #23 or ACG's high on coffee

So, this is what happens when you’re too well known at the local Starbucks.
I tend not to go into the stand alone corporate Starbucks across the street from my house. There was a time when they had a really good crew of people working in there. The kind that greeted you, knew your drink, and were genuinely happy to see you there. Then, over the course of a few years, the turnover was great and none of the people working there seemed to care about any of the customers. They were always too interested in talking to each other to even acknowledge your presence. This is about the time I stopped visiting the corporate store and started patronizing the Starbucks inside my grocery store, not a mile from the corporate store.
My daily coffee is my one indulgence. I don’t eat lunch out, I don’t buy shoes, I don’t wear makeup, I don’t do a lot of things that other people do. Hell, I’ve even pretty much stopped buying books and use the library 99% of the time these days. So, I treat myself to Starbucks during the week. Because of this, the ladies that work at my store know me very well. Tina, the manager, even knows my kids’ drinks by heart, going so far as to refer to my older girl’s drink as a Taylor Special.
Sometimes, mostly on payroll Wednesday, I’ll walk into the store, wave at whomever is working that morning, and make my way to the back of the store for one of those little rolls of Hostess chocolate donettes. You know the ones, I know you do. Although I did payroll yesterday, I thought I’d splurge and have some donuts this morning, so I walked past, said hi to Tina and got my treat. On my way back, I see Kim, another of the baristas, say hi and take my place in line. When I get up to pay, Tina pushed my coffee forward and I hear Kim say, “You already made her coffee? I made her one, too.” Tina gives Kim a look, then starts laughing. “I guess you get two today.”
Yeah, this is what my husband refers to as ‘gambling at Starbucks’ and I love it. Now, let’s see if I can make it through the day without getting fired because I came to work with 60 oz of high powered caffeine in my hands.

Date: 2015-12-23 05:39 pm (UTC)And I only just noticed that, instead of typing ACG (for asphaltCOWgirl) in the subject line... I substituted my actual middle initial. Hahahaha. I guess that's what happens when my first initial actually is an 'A'. DOH.
*off to fix that*

Date: 2015-12-23 06:20 pm (UTC)Okay, I've just come back with the lunch of champions. Sudafed and Hershey's miniatures. I cannot wait for bedtime tonight. And if I can finish the freaking job slips maybe I can get some writing in here. Of course that would require me 'stepping' away from LJ... *sigh* And now I'm just rambling.

Date: 2015-12-23 06:30 pm (UTC)Ugh, you poor thing. I have to take my older one to the doctor this afternoon, too. I think she has strep, so that's fun. Hah - I know how that goes. "If I can only do this, then I can do that..." Meanwhile, item C is holding all my attention. :D
Eh, rambling makes the world go 'round. ;)

Date: 2015-12-23 08:57 pm (UTC)I don't do all the things either, but neither do I do coffee out (why when the instant is free in the orifice? HA!), but that's okay, I do indulge on things occasionally. ;-)
And I don't know your donettes either, but that's what happens when you're not American! We have plenty of our own fun foods here! ;-)

Date: 2015-12-23 09:11 pm (UTC)I totally get that! Although M&M's are my favorite candy, I don't ever buy them any more because I have a 3 lb bag in my desk for the dispenser here in the office. But we all have our one thing that we do to treat ourselves.
They're just small yellow cake donuts covered in chocolate. Nothing special, just something I've loved since I was a kid. I'm sure you probably have something similar. An author friend has a taste for Tim Tams and I guess they're not available in the US (I've never seen them but I don't know for sure), so who knows what kind of goodies you're hoarding down there! :D

Date: 2015-12-23 09:39 pm (UTC)I love donuts, so I'm sure I'd be into them too! Tim Tams are so yummy, so yeah, and OMG yes, so many 'classic' kiwi things that are yummy but not really nutritional that I could share with you (online if not literally)! I should post about some of them. ;-)

Date: 2015-12-23 09:43 pm (UTC)The Tim Tams LOOK yummy so I can't even imagine. And no doubt - the best things are always the worst ones for you. YES! I'd love to see some of them, even if I can't ever buy any of them. :)

Date: 2015-12-23 09:54 pm (UTC)THEY ARE! And people do this thing where they dip them in their coffee and then when they're all melty, you suck the coffee THROUGH the Tim Tam. OMG! Chocolate coffee heaven!
And one day when you trust me enough not to send you a bomb in the mail, I will send you some goodies! ;-P

Date: 2015-12-23 10:01 pm (UTC)Oh gods, that sounds so good, too.
Hee! Oh, I trust you. With as psychotic as the US mail systems has gotten over the last fifteen years, between 9/11, anthrax and a million other idiotic things that have happened, I'm not sure a bomb would even make it to me. LOL
Oh - and that is NOT AN INVITATION TO TRY EITHER. :D
