Title: Flirts and Little White Lies
Fandom: Romani Detective original fiction
Pairing: Andrej/James/Zayne
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 758
Summary: James catches Reyes doing something out of the ordinary and Zayne has to defend himself.
Author’s Note: Written for the weekend challenge at 1_million_words. Prompt was, “The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish.” Thought that just screamed Reyes.
“What’s the matter, cowboy? Did you get shot down again?” The redhead leaned against the door leading into the robbery homicide division’s break room. “Kinda surprised you’re even trying considering your current situation.”
Reyes glared at the narcotics officer. “I wasn’t trying to get a date, narco,” he said, defending himself. The last thing he needed was for that little rumor to make its way back to Zek. Or, even worse, back to Hilary who would make darn certain Zeklos heard. In detail no less.
“Then what were you doing?” James crossed his arms and tapped his foot on the floor. “Because you’re looking awfully guilty.”
“She works for the district attorney’s office,” Zayne said, exiting the kitchen, the ginger trailing behind him. “I was hoping to get a little information out of her regarding this case we’re working.”
“And you thought hitting on her was the way to go about it?” James rubbed his chin and stared at Reyes. “This works for you?”
“It’s always worked for him in the past,” Trish said, stopping between the two of them. “And you shaved, James. I like it.” She gave his cleanly shaven cheek a pat before walking away.
Rosewood turned his gaze onto Reyes and waited.
Zayne shrugged. “Can’t tell you she’s wrong because she’s not,” he admitted. “And hell, I’m always being given crap for flirting, I might as well make it work for me, right?”
“You are such an idiot,” James scolded.
“Look,” Reyes started, pointing a finger at the redhead. ” The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish. I’m a work in progress.”
“You’re a piece of work is what you are,” Rosewood corrected.
“I suppose I don’t want to know what you two are discussing, do I.” Zeklos stopped several paces away from his boyfriends. Looking from James’ pale blue eyes to the deep green orbs set in Zayne’s face, he apparently came to a decision on his own. “Never mind, I know I don’t want to know. Did you find the assistant district attorney, Zayne?”
“Yes,” he said, breaking out of the stupor Zeklos’ gaze had put him into. “She’s not giving up any information. Sorry man, I tried.”
“It’s a shame that pillow talk is off the table,” Rosewood teased, giving Reyes’ arm a squeeze. “I need to get back to my own floor, but I wanted to make sure you were both available for dinner tonight.”
“Of course,” Zayne said, not waiting for Andrej to respond first.
“He’s always available for a meal,” Zeklos laughed. “But yes, barring any catastrophes, we both ought to be free.”
“Good,” James said, nodding at them both. “Seven o’clock. Mind if we meet at your place, Andy?”
“Of course not,” he said, leaning in to give his boyfriend a brief kiss. “We’ll be waiting for you.”
James gave a wave and walked out of the robbery homicide division and headed towards the elevators that would take him down to the floor housing narcotics and vice. They watched him disappear around the corner, neither saying a word until he was completely out of sight.
“That was a little odd,” Reyes said, nudging his partner in the side. “Any idea what it was all about?”
“Not a clue,” Andrej said, giving one last look towards the elevators. “But I suppose we will find out in a little over seven hours.”
Just what he loved to do, wait. “Please tell me we have something to keep us occupied until we find out what he has up his sleeve?”
“No Zayne,” Zeklos said, rolling his eyes. “We don’t have a single thing on our schedule today. Those two bodies we found in the park this morning are more than willing to hang out and wait until we’re bored enough to see who dumped them near the pond.”
“It’s a lake, you nut,” Zayne laughed, “and I was being sarcastic. I swear, you’d think you’d have grasped some pieces of the English language by now.”
Shaking his head, Zeklos dug his keys out of his pocket and walked away. A grin spread across Reyes’ face as he watched that tight ass saunter towards the exit. If he weren’t so worried Zek would drive off and leave him, he’d continue to stand and watch the view. But seeing as he really didn’t want to be stuck at the station, he double-timed it until he caught up to his retreating partner. Stepping into the elevator beside him, he slipped his arm through Zek’s and tugged him close.

OH - and I found the nicest pic of Erasmo Viani - the Brazilian model I found to use as Reyes' body double and I think you're gonna like it. :D
