That Horrible Moment When...

you read what might be the perfect prompt and realize you can't fill it because someone might come for you.  Forget the pitchforks and torches, this would be full-on battle mode.

From today's episode of comment_fic where the theme is doomed love, I get this:

Any; any/any/any; when one of them dies, the other two fall apart

Yeah, I really ought to step away from the internet now before I more than abuse one of my favorites.  *sits on hands*

I've only done something like this twice (and once was an Almost Human fic and Dorian is an android so he wasn't really dead just... deactivated), and it hurts each time. So yeah, I will definitely hold onto it because it's a VERY good exercise.

That's funny because the one actual character death I dealt with centered around the partner left behind writing an obituary for the one that was lost. The aftermath is always the hardest though.

Angst and tears are a good thing because they get all those bad feelings out and over with. I will try and put a disclaimer or something in my notes if/when I do write this (and I really want to). Gotta get James through his situation at home first. :D

I wouldn't call it a *kink* of mine, but....sometimes a sad song says so much. Oh...wait...that's an Elton John song.....

I've killed Danny and made Steve suffer. And vice-versa. I've killed Dean twice and made Castiel miss him for two eternities. A couple of the stories were just poignant, a couple made me cry my frigging eyes out - and I'm guessing that's what I needed at the time. I'm not sorry I wrote them but I'll admit, it's a pricey emotional investment and probably not for everyone.

Oh - PS: Remember the other week, the prompt about the rose and the silver picture frame in the window and the missed note/text message that had the potential to be all angsty? I did totally write some extremely not-angsty, apparently very funny fic from it!. I was hoping it wasn't just funny to me - that might have meant I had a screw loose.... but it went over well. ;)

Agreed on all points. I killed Wes once, made Travis write his obituary and that ripped me apart. It had started as a writing exercise and turned into catharsis. So absolutely - sometimes that total breakdown is everything you needed in that moment. Definitely not for everybody but... yeah.

I just went and read this and I'm dying over here. My boss poked his head out of his office to ask if I was okay. And as far as having a screw loose, I once wrote a SPN/Chopped crossover so um, you wouldn't be alone at least. :D There's a time and place for everything, from seriously heart-wrenching to crackhead at its finest.
