Edit: our internet has been out here at the office so it's been three hours since I first wrote this.
I feel like I only just wrote a post like this but it’s actually been fourteen months.
A little over a week ago, our cat, Buddy started having problems with his mouth. Couldn’t eat, would cry and claw at his face if he tried. So, we took him to the vet and were told he had gum disease and she hooked him up with a steroid shot for the pain and then antibiotics. Within a couple days, the swelling had gone down and he was back to causing trouble.
Yesterday, he had a follow-up appointment with the vet for a recheck, x-rays and a cleaning. As per routine, they ran some blood tests and discovered that he’s in stage 4 kidney failure. Oddly enough, he wasn’t showing a single sign of it. As a matter of fact, the vet had said other than the issue with his teeth and gums, he was perfectly healthy.
How wrong she was.
They’re going to keep him for a couple days, give him electrolytes and keep an eye on him, looking for improvement. They can’t promise anything but I keep hoping. I mean, how can I not? He’s not quite seven years old yet, has only been in our lives for a little less than six.
I simply do not know what to do right now. My kids were inconsolable last night. This morning, my younger daughter was complaining of feeling nauseous and I just know she’ll be calling from school here soon. I hope and pray she can make it through because being with friends and other kids will help her more than being home, alone, and worrying. She’s an extremely sensitive kid and I hate that she’s hurting so much right now.
Happy, healthy kitty thoughts welcome.

Date: 2016-11-29 08:32 pm (UTC)I keep hoping for the same thing. Once the infection in his mouth cleared up, he was right back to being his usual, obnoxious self. Never thought anything could be seriously wrong.
I'll take them all! Hug Eggs for me. :)
