Title: Stay a Little Longer Chapter 2
Fandom: Romani Detective original fiction
Pairing: Andrej Zeklos/James Rosewood
Rating: NC-17-ish (I think I ran out of sexiness after the last fic)
Word Count: 2,819
Summary: James asked Andrej to stay the weekend and Andrej accepted, of course.
Author’s Note: Merry Christmas my friends! I kept hoping to have this finished so I could post the final chapter tomorrow but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Had a bit of a crisis last night that sapped my creativity. But I will get it done before long, promise.
Continued from here.
Now that he’d managed to convince Andy to spend the night – wait, no the weekend – he began to doubt himself. Was he moving things forward too quickly? He looked over at Andrej lounging on the sofa, eating the last bits of the ice cream James had bought the night before. That man in his living room wasn’t like any other James had ever dated. Not just because he wasn’t from this country either. No, Andrej was a completely different animal, one that had to be handled in a more delicate manner than most other men.
Men like Zayne Reyes.
James felt the growl build in his chest at the thought of Andy’s partner. The asshole had already called twice – once before dinner and once during – wanting to know where he and Andy had shacked up. Despite Andrej’s assurances, James found it hard to believe that the cowboy didn’t have some kind of emotional attachment to his partner. He couldn’t take five minutes of Andy’s time without Reyes hunting them down at the coffee cart or standing in the hallway having a chat. The man was relentless and honestly, beginning to border on obsessed. Although he tried not to let it get to him, sometimes James began to feel the tiniest bit jealous of Reyes.
The guy was hotter than a Vegas summer after all.
But my gods, was he ever arrogant and annoying. How Andrej managed to get through a single day without strangling Reyes was a miracle.
“What did he want this time,” James asked, trying to keep his frustration under control.
Andrej turned those brilliant blue eyes on him and shrugged. “He keeps saying he is looking for me, but will not tell me why he is concerned.”
“Did you tell him you were with me?” James knew he had, he’d heard Andy tell the nutcase detective as much at least twice.
“I did,” Andrej acknowledged. “Still he asks, ‘But where are you’.”
“Maybe he thinks I’m holding you hostage and he needs to save you,” James said, only partially kidding.
“You may have coerced me into staying the weekend,” Andrej said, a soft chuckle following the words, “but you are by no means keeping me captive.”
Not that he wasn’t above doing exactly that, because honestly, James wasn’t. He’d threaten the gorgeous Romanian and handcuff him to his bed if it came to it. Some days, he really had zero shame.
“Do I need to,” he asked, worried suddenly that his internal monologue was printed across his forehead in bright letters. “Are you planning on sneaking out once I fall asleep?”
“Never,” Andrej assured him. Setting the ice cream down on the coffee table, he patted the empty spot beside him. “Come, sit with me, James.”
Happily, James obeyed. There was some ridiculous home improvement show on the television, making him reach for the remote. “I can’t believe you’re watching this, Andy,” he laughed. “I figured you’d be more of a Food Network junkie.”
Andrej reached out and put his hand on top of James’, stalling the changing of the channel. “I much prefer cooking shows to house shows, but I wasn’t truly watching. I was only waiting for you.”
xx
Although he’d been expecting the kiss, the ghosting of James’ lips against his caught Andrej off guard. He started to pull back before realizing that he wanted to move in the opposite direction. That he needed to be closer to James, not farther away. Andrej could feel James’ smile as he returned the redhead’s kiss, letting him know that this was more than okay, this was exactly what he’d wanted.
They were still on the couch, where they’d been sitting for the last hour. A new, but equally as boring, home renovation show had replaced the one that had been on before and neither was giving it an ounce of their attention. Instead, they’d focused on each other and had found themselves lost in conversation. They’d kept it light, not wanting to ruin the easy feeling between them with serious talk.
Until now.
James had his fingers threaded through Andrej’s hair, massaging his scalp as his tongue delved deeper into Andy’s mouth. Although Andrej was hardly a virgin, he found himself nervous and anxious and excited waiting for what was going to come next. Would it end with a kiss? Hardly, or James wouldn’t have been so adamant about him staying the weekend. The bigger question was: were they ready for this next step?
Andrej slid an arm around James’ waist, pulling them closer, as near as they could get on the couch. James responded by deepening the kiss, tilting Andrej’s head back and leaning in. Long, luscious moments passed before James broke the kiss, putting a scant few inches between their faces. He could feel James’ breath on his skin.
“Come to bed with me, Andy,” he asked, voice unsteady. “Please.”
This he had expected as well, had hoped for it even. Still, he found his insides quaking at the probability of what was about to happen. He lifted his fingers to James’ chin, trailing them along the coppery stubble growing across his pale skin. “How can I say no?”
Grinning, James kissed Andrej’s cheek. “Easy, Andy, you say ‘no’.” He kissed Andrej’s lips this time, just a brief press of skin to skin. “But please don’t, I’m not sure I could take that.”
Blushing, Andrej started to respond and found himself cut off by the ringing of his cell phone. “Oh no, give me one minute I –”
He dug his phone out of his pocket and glanced at the caller ID. Frowning at the sight of Zayne’s name, Andrej felt his heart drop into his stomach. James must’ve read the look on his face because before he could answer, the device was snatched out of his hand and tossed across the living room.
“James,” he asked, confused and a tiny bit worried.
“No way,” he said, cradling Andrej’s face in his hands. “He is not ruining our night together, I don’t give a damn how hard he tries.”
“What if it is important, James? What if there is a case?” A million and one scenarios were running through his mind suddenly, each one worse than the last. Was something wrong with Hilary? Had a body been discovered and they were needed on scene? On and on and on the possibilities piled up in his brain.
“He’ll leave a message if it’s important,” James said, sounding more reasonable than Andrej had expected in the situation.
The phone stopped ringing and they both stared at it, black on the grey carpet. After a long silence, it beeped, signaling a voice message. Giving James a questioning look, he got up and retrieved his phone from the floor. Unlocking it, he dialed voice mail.
“Put the asshole on speaker,” James said. “I want to know what kind of guilt trip he’s giving you.”
“Please do not call him such names,” Andrej sighed. He hated it when James and Zayne sniped at each other like this. Not to mention that defending one to the other always left him feeling guilty.
“Sorry,” James said, grimacing. “Please put it on speaker so I can hear whether it’s an urgent matter or Reyes giving you a guilt trip.”
“Better,” Andrej smiled. He clicked on the speaker icon and waited while the automated voice finished. Pressing one, Andrej held his breath, impatient to know why Zayne had called. Again.
“Hey,” Zayne’s voice drawled through the speaker. “You okay, man? It’s not like you to not answer your phone, Zek. It worries me. Um, I was going to ask you something, but I’ll wait until you call me back. It’s not the kind of thing you’d like me to leave on your voice mail.” Zayne paused and he could hear papers rustling in the background. “Let me know you’re okay or I’m going to track your goddamned phone and come find you, okay? Uh, bye.”
The call ended and James started laughing. It wasn’t even close to the reaction Andrej had anticipated, but he was relieved that James hadn’t started screaming. “James?”
“Oh god,” James chuckled. “And you’re positive he’s not in love with you? Because I can’t even right now.”
This again. Why did everyone insist on implying that Zayne was in love with him? Especially since everyone knew it was the other way around. “No, he is not in love with me,” he said, praying that the hurt the statement caused didn’t resonate in his voice. “And I do not understand why you keep asking me this.”
“Because he acts like a jealous lover, Andy,” James said, dialing his amusement back a bit. “And seriously, if you were out with him and weren’t answering my calls? Tracking your cell is exactly what I would do. So yeah, I think he’s got some kind of unresolved feelings for you.”
“He is only concerned,” Andrej said, pushing his conflicting feelings to the side. Now was not the time to examine them. “He is also not used to me having anyone in my life other than him. If he is jealous of anything, it is that he no longer has full claim on my free time.”
“Ah,” James said, kissing Andrej’s forehead. “That I can believe. Text him back, tell him you’re fine, and then turn off your phone. The last damn thing I want is him calling again once we leave this couch.”
He could feel the heat rise in his cheeks. The idea of Zayne interrupting their imminent lovemaking horrified him in more ways than the obvious. “Okay,” he agreed. “Give me a minute and I’ll follow you back.”
“I don’t like leaving you at his mercy, but I’ll respect your privacy even if he doesn’t. Five minutes, Andy,” James said, shaking a playful finger in his direction. “And then I’m coming back for you.”
“Deal,” Andrej said. “Five minutes, Jay,” he promised, the newfound nickname odd on his tongue.
“Thank god you didn’t call me Jimmy,” he joked. Giving Andrej a kiss on the cheek, he stood and left for the bedroom. “I hate being called Jimmy.”
Sighing, Andrej sent a text to Zayne, hoping it’d be enough to deter him for the night.
I’m fine, Zayne. Do not track my phone and please do not call again.
He waited for the return text, afraid of what his partner might have to say.
What? The narco keeping you from me now? I knew he was going to be a pain in the ass.
Again with the name calling. What was it with these two? He was going to have a discussion with both men before long if he and James were going to stay together.
He is not keeping me from you. I am simply wanting a quiet night with James. You have me all week, he gets two nights. Please?
The silence was longer this time, making Andrej wonder if Zayne was going to respond at all.
Fine. I’ll see you on Monday, I guess. So much for having my back.
James was wrong. Zayne wasn’t jealous, he was spoiled. So used to getting whatever he needed out of Andrej whenever he needed it, being told no mad him petulant.
I’ll call you when I get home Sunday.
The response was instant.
SUNDAY? What the hell, Zek? You two moving in together already?
The dejection he felt reading the text was visceral. He and Zayne needed to have a serious talk and soon.
No, we are not moving in together, Zayne. But we are spending the weekend together, much like you and Hilary often do. I do not see the difference. Good night.
He powered off his phone before Zayne could respond. Andrej didn’t think he could handle whatever hurtful accusation Zayne said next. If there was one thing Reyes had learned during their time as partners, it was exactly how to get under Andre’s skin. He’d acquired quite a knack for doing it, too. Leaving his phone on the coffee table, Andrej stood and went to join James on wobbly legs.
xx
Andrej looked up at James. The hands that Andrej had watched illustrate a point numerous times were now skimming their way down his bare skin. Touching, teasing, and setting his body on fire. Fingertips drew circles on his chest, shoulders, lower belly, while the gently scraping nails sent tremors through Andrej’s muscles.
Throughout it all, James appeared unmoved, unaffected, but every kiss told a different story. They came slowly at first, teasing along the curve of Andrej’s jaw, ghosting over his lips, landing randomly over his exposed skin. Then they came faster, landing quicker and lasting longer every time. He ruffled James’ thick, rust colored hair from the neck upwards, reveling in the feel of the short, silky strands as they slipped through his fingers.
“Don’t,” James growled, nipping at Andrej’s bottom lip.
“Why not,” Andrej challenged, wanting to push the redhead to his breaking point.
“Because I want to take my time with you,” he said between kisses. “But if you keep that up, that plan will go out the window.”
Andrej’s fingers threaded their way through James’ ginger hair again, intentionally baiting James, prodding him to his limit. With his hands on James’ head, he pulled the redhead down into a fierce kiss. Despite James’ resolve to give Andrej the best night possible, a night filled with cuddles and kisses and gentle lovemaking, Andrej wasn’t having any of it. He’d waited long enough. Not just for James to decide it was time, but in general. Since discovering his true self, he’d spent too many nights alone, too many moments where he was on the outside looking in. Now that he had James, Andrej wasn’t going to wait for anything any longer.
“We have all weekend,” Andrej whispered. “You can take your time later. Right now, I need you.”
It was the right thing to say, it seemed. Growling, James attacked Andrej’s mouth, grinding his hips against Andrej’s already hard cock. Eager, Andrej responded by lifting his hips, encouraging James’ aggression.
“Andy,” James breathed, “you’re going to be the death of me.”
“I pray not,” Andrej replied, digging his fingers into James’ shoulder. “But if it is to be…”
Chuckling, James cut his words off with a kiss. “Later,” he said. “Kill me later.”
“I can do that,” Andrej agreed, not intending to ever cause James death or any sort of pain if he could help it. Pleasure, on the other hand, he was all over that.
James pressed his body against Andrej’s, chest to chest, mouth to mouth. Guiding Andrej’s every move, James fed his every desire. Andrej molded himself against James, unwilling to allow an inch of space to form between them. He needed this like he needed air, needed James like he’d never needed anyone.
Ordinarily, Andrej didn’t have a preference when it came to bedroom politics. If he was into the guy and knew he could trust him, he went along with whatever his partner wanted. James had been different, however. It had been obvious from their first meeting that James was an alpha male of the highest order. Direct, confident, the kind of man that made you want to drop to your knees and pledge fealty for a lifetime. So it was no wonder that Andrej allowed him to take control, to lead this dance they’d begun.
God, and it was worth it, too. Giving up control to James proved to be the best decision he’d made all week. The feel of James’ hands on his body, the crush of his weight against Andrej, caused a rush of emotions he hadn’t expected, at least not during sex. Offering up a silent prayer to whomever was listening, Andrej closed his eyes and savored every second.
xx
An arm rested heavily across his waist, James’ heart beating rapidly in his ear. Not wanting to move, Andrej snuggled closer into James’ side, wishing that they had more than a single weekend together. Given the choice, Andrej could lie here in his lover’s arms forever.
“You okay,” James asked, fingers brushing across Andrej’s abdomen. “You’re awfully quiet.”
“I have no words,” he said, not sure that it was the right thing to say, even if it were true. A lack of words at a time like this could be interpreted as a bad thing. “I’m content to lay here, with you.”
“Good,” James sighed, hugging him closer. “Because I think I could sleep for the next two days.”
“That wouldn’t be any fun,” Andrej joked, kissing the curve of a pectoral. “I thought you had plans for me.”
“I do,” he teased. “Okay, so maybe an hour then? We could grab some food and crawl back into bed.”
“Sounds heavenly,” Andrej said, eyes closing. “Wake me in an hour.”
But James was already asleep.
