Title: Defying Gravity
Fandom: Romani Detective original fiction
Pairing: none
Rating: G
Word Count: 302
Author’s Note: Written for the 100-in-100 year end challenge at 1_million_words. Saw the prompt of anti-gravity and, although it doesn’t really apply to skydiving, I thought this would be fun all the same.
Generally, Andrej felt like he had a decent grasp on the English language. Although, sometimes, despite having been speaking it for over fifteen years, he realized certain nuances of the language were lost on him. Today had been a perfect example.
When Zayne had said he was going to teach James a little bit about physics, he had taken them both seriously. How was he supposed to know that Zayne was being facetious and maybe a tad bit malicious? Well, other than the fact that the words ‘teach’ and ‘physics’ had exited the cowboy’s mouth that is. A better question was, how could he have predicted he’d be caught in the middle of Reyes’ little lesson on gravity?
He probably should have questioned Zayne or, at the least, James, but it hadn’t occurred to him to do either. Fool that he was, he believed that there would be some talk of Sir Isaac Newton, an apple would appear followed closely by a threat to shoot Jay in the forehead with an arrow. Never in his wildest dreams had he expected this.
Looking up at the padded walls surrounding him, Andrej sighed. He should have known, he should have suspected that Zayne had something up his sleeve. Nothing is ever straightforward with his partner, nothing ever will be as certain as the words he utters. Tugging at the blue flight suit he’d donned over his jeans and t-shirt, Andrej sighed and pulled the safety goggles over his eyes.
Next time, he told himself giving his partner and boyfriend a pointed look, he will ask questions.
Maybe next time, he won’t be blindly led into something unexpected.
Possibly, hopefully next time he won’t end up in the center of a wind tunnel preparing to skydive indoors.
But he wasn’t going to hold his breath.
