Title: At First Meet
Fandom: Romani Detective original fiction
Pairing: Gen – Andrej Zeklos + Zayne Reyes, James Rosewood + Jake Hansen
Rating: PG-13 for a little language
Summary: Zayne’s late and can’t get into the station.
Author’s Note: Written for the February Bingo challenge at 1_million_words. I took drabble card number three. This is for the prompt ‘met before they met’.
“Excuse me,” Zayne said, maneuvering through the crowd. He had no idea why so many people were gathered in front of the station, but he was determined to find out.
“You have any idea what’s going on,” a voice asked from beside him.
Zayne tore his eyes off the crowd and glanced at the redhead standing next to him. “No clue.”
“Don’t you work here,” he asked, a smirk on his pale face.
Opening his mouth to respond appropriately, Zayne noticed the badge hanging around the redhead’s neck. “Wait a minute,” he said, grabbing the detective’s gold shield and tugging. “Why the hell don’t you know?”
Shrugging, the ginger pried Zayne’s fingers off his badge. “Can’t know everything, can I?”
“Yet you expect me to?” Zayne shook his head, frustrated.
“For the love of god,” a second voice gasped. “There you are. Rosewood, I’ve been looking for you.”
The redhead – Rosewood, Zayne noted – turned to the newcomer and sighed. “Sorry, Hansen. Got sidetracked. Any idea what’s happening?”
“Broken pipe,” Hansen said. “They evacuated the entire building.”
Which meant Zeklos was probably looking for him. “Shit.”
“What now,” Rosewood laughed. “Late for a date?”
“No, just my partner,” Zayne said. “He’s gotta already be pissed that I’m late.”
“Who’s your partner,” Hansen asked. “I ran into every detective working while trying to locate this idiot.”
“That would be me.” Finally a familiar voice! “It is about time you arrived, Zayne.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Zayne said, waving off his partner’s concern. “Got waylaid by these two, trying to figure out why we couldn’t get inside.”
Zeklos folded his arms over his chest. “If you had been here on time, you would have known.”
Rosewood and Hansen burst into laughter.
“Not funny,” Zayne grunted. “Don’t we have a case?”
More laughter. The assholes.

Date: 2018-03-19 03:45 pm (UTC)I'm stuck at a desk for 9 hours a day, I do sneak in a bit of reading here and there.

Date: 2018-03-31 07:12 pm (UTC)Yeah, you totally should. That's one thing about my job... I am not stuck at my desk. At my night job, I tend to read or writing.

Date: 2018-04-03 10:36 am (UTC)I write at my night job, as long as the kids (adults? some of my students aren't kids) aren't handing me papers to grade or asking me questions. But then I have to type stuff up later. So sometimes it take a couple of days before that stuff is posted or sorted through.

Date: 2018-04-03 04:28 pm (UTC)That's okay too though. I used to do a lot of hand written work as well and would type it up later when I was alone.
