Okay so this wasn't supposed to happen

GUYS HELP.
Netgalley is an addiction as well as an impulse. And I might just need an intervention.
Generally, I can resist the urge to request every book that they email me about. But then, there are times when I cannot say no. On the bright side, I'm usually turned down for those impulse clicks. Although my feedback rate is above where they want it (83% currently, but will go up soon as I have one ready to review and one almost finished), often I don't have enough of a blog following to get the big name publishers to take a chance. Which, honestly, is okay. I see too many bloggers with 19 ARCS on their Netgalley shelf and no time to read them. I don't want that.
So, when an email for this book landed in my inbox, I clicked.

I clicked so fast, guys, I think I have push button finger now. And HOLY MOTHER OF COWBOYS HARLEQUIN FREAKING APPROVED IT. Like, almost instantly. I swear, I was expecting to wait four weeks and then get a rejection notice. I'd cry if they put me on auto-approve because SO MANY BOOKS. And despite the bad rep HQN gets sometimes, their MIRA line has some amazing thrillers.
So, what I have pending at the moment:
Like Never and Always by Ann Aguirre - FINISHED waiting for review
A Scandal in Scarlet by Vicki Delany - NEARLY DONE. I love this series so I should finish it in the next couple days
Little Darlings by Melanie Golding - publishes 5/10/19 so I have a minute or two to get this one done.
An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen - publishes 1/8/19 so I have time on this, too. It's next up though because it's been on my shelf the longest
Luck of the Draw by B. J. Daniels - this you know about but it doesn't release until 5/21/19 so my impulse click wasn't as bad as it could have been.
So, not too bad considering one is done and the other is close.
Anyway, back to your lives. I couldn't help but scream about this and, since literally no one in my real life cares, you get stuck with it. Now, I need to finish spending all of my boss' money.

Date: 2018-11-05 08:34 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I just got an email to tell me I can pick a book up at the library, and I'm thinking 'what book is this; I don't remember ordering one' as they usually come through fairly quickly and my brain actually remembers I ordered one. Thinking a bit longer made me remember I ordered the first in The Expanse series (after watching as much of the show as they had available on Netflix), but I was like #31 in the queue, so at the time I knew I'd have to wait a while, and promptly forgot all about it. Now I'm excited to go pick it up, but having the brain of a very small bear, I completely forgot yesterday afternoon. Thus I have now put a reminder on my phone so I don't forget again tonight after work!

Date: 2018-11-05 09:06 pm (UTC)That's funny - I got an email from the library, too. That makes two library books I have to read on top of everything else. *sigh* Oh nice, I hope you enjoy the book, I remember you talking about how much you liked the show. I have one to return and one to pick up this afternoon and I have to stop at the store... wish me luck remembering it all!

Date: 2018-11-05 10:19 pm (UTC)Yay, library books! Mind you, I can't help thinking you do this to yourself! LOL. Yes, me too, I am looking forward to it very much, and suspect I may delve into it before finishing the book I'm currently reading about the Siamese Twins Chang & Eng... GOOD LUCK remembering everything! I usually find there's one thing I forget in any list - here's hoping it's not some essential grocery item! Which reminds me, we could use more carrots already (I thank N2D for bringing home another rabbit, although to be fair, she did ask this time).

Date: 2018-11-05 10:30 pm (UTC)Oh, I absolutely do this to myself. I know why I do it, too, but won't get into it here since this has been a happy post. But I definitely bury myself and it's always my own making. Hahaha - so true! Luckily, none of it is essential, it's all stuff Taylor forgot to ask me to get when I grocery shopped on Saturday. UGH. Hahahaha - a new bunny is an excellent reason to need more carrots. Although, don't feed them too many carrots as they're high in sugar and rodents are prone to diabetes.

Date: 2018-11-05 11:05 pm (UTC)Yay for non-essentials!
Yes, my lovely N2D is studying animal sciences at uni and she keeps telling me not to feed them too much carrot as well! but with two rabbits and five guinea pigs, four carrots are not going to last till next Sunday, so I must get more, and probably more greens as well, *sigh* because although I bought six bags on Sunday, I suspect we'll need more again before long. Don't let me forget it's only Tuesday though, because for a second there, I thought it was Wednesday, and that's NOT GOOD!

Date: 2018-11-06 07:40 pm (UTC)Yes, just needed Bitchin' Sauce and tortilla chips. Because my children are spoiled.
Ah, how cool! Whoops, nope, that's not going to last at all! I know what you're going through though. Sampson needs spring mix (don't know if you have something similar there but it's a mix of baby greens like spinach, romaine, and arugula) as well as fruits and veggies. Troy has a salad for lunch every day made from the same spring mix so I'm constantly buying that and butternut squash (Sampson's favorite).

Date: 2018-11-06 08:37 pm (UTC)I need to take some more pics - the new rabbit is so pretty. I usually buy a spinach/kale mix, and last time I grabbed a couple of mesclun mix - they have a bunch of stuff in; we just have to be careful they don't get too much plain lettuce as that makes their poop runny! Gideon lately seems to only eat coriander, but then he's also got plenty of access to grass so he probably eats more of that (and hay) than we realise.

Date: 2018-11-06 08:46 pm (UTC)Please do! I miss having a bunny. Ah, yes, that is a problem and a nasty one at that. I used to feed basil to my hamsters and it gave them basil-scented breath. Much nicer than the pellet-scented breath! Never thought about giving cilantro to any of my animals. Hmmm. I wonder if Sampson can have either?

Date: 2018-11-09 03:43 pm (UTC)I had never heard of NetGalley and never knew how people got ARCS before I started reading your posts. It's really interesting.

Date: 2018-11-09 04:20 pm (UTC)It's funny because I stumbled onto a budding blog looking for reviewers about 11 years ago and they set me up with Netgalley. Otherwise, like you, I'd have never heard about it either. It is an interesting concept and a cheap, effective way to get reviewers to read your books and blog about them. Win/win as far as I'm concerned. You give me free books, I'll give you a review. LOL Oh, and sometimes, authors will find you on Goodreads and offer you free review copies.
Er, um, yeah, I know. I have a book problem. LOL

Date: 2018-11-09 05:33 pm (UTC)BUT BUT BUT my feedback ratio on Netgalley is now at 90% and I only have three books on my shelf! And I cannot tell you how hard it was not to go surfing for new books once I posted my review. Hahaha.
Amen sister. :)

I'm still trying to figure things out, but there's a welcome page and I've friended about 5 book review blogs. I'll play around there some more later.
