November Wrap-Up

That no one asked for. Hahaha.
What I watched:
Finished up the last two episodes of Big Little Lies. I’d really enjoyed the book, so I was curious about the series. Turns out, they did a great job translating Liane Moriarty’s novel into a TV series.
Above Suspicion: This is a British show based off the Anna Travis novels by Lynda LaPlante. I’ve only read one of the books in this series, but liked it enough to watch the series. Acorn does such a great job with these detective shows that you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
American Gods: I read this back when it first came out a million years ago, so maybe that’s why I don’t remember it being this bizarre? However, it IS Neil Gaiman so I probably should not be surprised. I mean, has anyone seen Coraline? (Or read it for that matter? Eight years and up my rear end.)
What I managed to read:
A Scandal in Scarlet by Vicki Delany. This is book #4 in the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery series and was also an ARC I got from Netgalley. I wasn’t sure I liked Gemma much in that first book, but she loosens up every novel and she was probably at her best in this one.
Vampire Knight Volumes 10 & 11. I watched the anime on Netflix last year, I think, and am slowly working my way through the manga now. Funny, but I don’t remember the anime addressing the fact that YUKI AND KANAME ARE SIBLINGS. I’m still enjoying it despite that weird bit right there.
Every Shattered Dream Part One by T. A. Chase. I picked this up… forever ago because it was free. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard the song called “Riding with Private Malone” but that’s pretty much the basis of this story. Although, I’m thinking that Logan is going to have himself a ghost for a boyfriend by the end of the series. Eventually, I’ll need to finish this, but not today.
Read Bottom Up by Neel Shah & Skye Chatham. Really cute book written in nothing but text messages and emails. The ending kind of left me a little sad, but it was a pretty real-to-life kind of almost love story.
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith. I love Harry Potter. LOVE. So, I’ve been reluctant to read J. K. Rowling’s adult mystery series. I broke down and bought the audio and really enjoyed it.
Falls the Shadow by Skip Horack. This was an Amazon Kindle Single or Original or something. Really short audiobook, about 30 minutes or so. There are something like 8 in this series and they all deal with environmental issues. Kind of interesting, honestly.
Fool’s Moon by Diane A. S. Stuckart. Another ARC although this came from the review site I ‘work’ for. Reminded me somewhat of Rita Mae Brown’s Mrs. Murphy series because the main characters are two cats (Ophelia and Brandon) and a pitbull named Zuki. However, while they are figuring out the mystery, so is their tarot card reading owner, Ruby. I loved the mix of tarot and animals in this and can’t wait for the next in the series.
What’s up next?
As far as my Netflix obsession, I have an anime called When Marnie was There as well as All the President’s Men (which I started watching this morning). Plus, catching up on Hawaii Five-0 and Midsommer Murders and… well, everything else in my queue. I did manage to catch up on the current season of The Good Place and am also working on Leah Remini’s Scientology and the Aftermath now that it’s started up again.
Book-wise, I’m almost done with The Anonymous Girl, one of four Netgalley ARCS I have outstanding. Plus, my Fresh Fiction Box Not to Miss arrived on Saturday and I have six new books. OOOPS. Although, I was surprised that the one Christmas novel in the bunch was actually a m/m book from Carina Press called Better Not Pout. I’m going to start that as soon as I finish An Anonymous Girl because I’m not likely to read a Christmas novel after the holiday.
I did get a good laugh yesterday. My husband loves to channel surf, point out things that I love, and then keep going. Well, yesterday, he stumbled across Real Genius on some oddball channel AND SAT AND WATCHED IT. Now, I love this dumb as a box of rocks, silly as hell movie (YOUNG VAL KILMER NEED I SAY MORE?), but he can only stand so much of it, so I was shocked. When I got up to leave halfway through to run to Target and Whole Foods, he jokes and says, “You want me to record the rest of it for you?” I said, “Nah, I have it on DVD.” I might not ever live that one down. (Oddly enough, I do not own a copy of Top Gun.)
Anyway… I’m done with lunch so I probably ought to stop babbling and get back to work.

Date: 2018-12-03 09:30 pm (UTC)You do know they are finally doing a sequel to Top Gun. The original may not hold up well against it.
And, you need Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang for the sheer hell of it....lol

Date: 2018-12-03 10:10 pm (UTC)I heard about that. And I'm sure - not much from the 80's holds up well these days.
OH MY GOD, I love that movie. I laugh so damn hard every time I watch it. RDJ's narration alone is enough to crack me up.

When I went searching for gifs, the comment on the one above was 'remember that movie where Iceman makes out with Iron Man?" and I couldn't stop laughing.
