High Roller + Houston, We Have a Problem

Picture heavy. You have been warned. :D
So, this past Friday night was my husband's Christmas party for work. His company always goes all out and has a really nice meal and some fun activity. This year was a banquet-style dinner at the Linq and then a ride on the High Roller.
For those who are unfamiliar, the High Roller is a Ferris Wheel on steroids. At the peak, it's 550 feet tall. It's really freaking amazing, to be honest. I live in a suburb of Las Vegas and can see it from my house. But the view... oh my god. I've lived in this town basically all my life (I moved here when I was 4) but I never get tired of seeing this place from high above the ground.
First, the pod behind us:

The view:

It's kind of surreal to me to be down at the Linq. Years ago, I worked at Ethel M Chocolates at a rinky dink, rundown little casino called O'Shea's. Well, O'Shea's is still there but lemme tell ya, it's nohthing like it once was.
Oh, and while I'm thinking about it... my friends who have been to Hawaii, have you ever had the shortbread from the Honolulu Cookie Company? There's a retail store there down at the Linq and oh my lord, are they good cookies!
Erm, anyway. It turned out to be a really nice night. We're lucky in that T works with some really nice people. His boss always remembers me and the guys he talks to are always great. As an added bonus, about three months ago they hired a new guy named John. Turns out this is the same John that my husband met while working his first engineering job back in 1995. John was our roommate for about 2 years, until he moved back home to Michigan. I haven't seen the guy since my wedding... 21 years ago. It's crazy. Aside from having much less hair, he still looks, acts, and sounds the same.
Lastly, I think Sunny has finally gotten over the last of her skittishness.

I have a feeling that my reading in the new year will not be as productive as this past year has been. (BTW, Kaige, I finished one of those manga... four to go.)
As a bonus, I got all my Christmas presents wrapped today, too!

Date: 2018-12-17 09:14 pm (UTC)We had a cat many years ago who loved to sit with me while I read and I've missed it. Nayla will lay on me, but never for long. I might regret this later, when Sunny is full grown, but right now, it's great. :)
