Book Quote Tuesday

A blog I follow posts a quote from a book every Tuesday so I thought I'd play around with the idea today.
The most recent book I finished was Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi. Let me tell you, this was the most bizarre ass book I've read in quite some time. Don't get me wrong, I love magical realism. Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of my all-time favorite authors. However, I was so darn lost during this book that I honestly have no idea what actually happened. By the looks of the reviews on Goodreads, I'm not alone here. That said, the writing is really good and the characters likable for the most part.
A couple quotes from the book:
The odd numbers bring a raggedy comfort, as close to huggability as numbers get. The horror of the even numbers is all-enveloping.
This appeals to me because I've always had this weird dislike of even numbers. It's odd, even for me.
She surprised them with the discovery that once an avid reader runs out of books, she reads people. Harriet read everybody she met, and when she met them again, she reread them.
I had never thought of this before, but she's not wrong. People watching is one of my favorite things.
Opposing random negativity with random positivity—that’s the main thing.
Had to include this one because of the unbelievable amount of negativity surrounding me lately.
See? I'm not all piss and vinegar. :D There's a bit of brown sugar and mustard mixed in there as well.
