And the hardest day of my life is over, finally. I’m sure that the real work is about to begin, but I can deal with that.

So, a rundown of my day yesterday:

I got up at 3:30, took a shower, woke Troy up, and went downstairs to eat so that I wasn’t starving. He had to be at the hospital by 5:30 so we left the house around 5. They got him admitted and in pre-op by 6:00.

His mom went back for surgery around 7:30 AM and was out by 11:30. She was in a ton of pain, but had good color. The doctor said that everything went well with her and he was very happy with it.

They took Troy back at noon, which kind of surprised me since his mom had only just gotten out. (The doctor was supposed to have a break between surgeries.) His end took longer and he wasn’t out until nearly 4:30. He was in a lot of pain as well, but the nice thing about having a new kidney? HE CAN ACTUALLY HAVE PAIN MEDS AGAIN. It was funny though – people always comment on how pale he is and my first thought is – BUT HE’S A REDHEAD. His color last night was so much better. I mean, he’s still a pasty ass ginger, but I hadn’t realized just how pale he’d gotten over the last year or so.

It took them forever to get him into a room, but by 8 PM, he was finally in the med/surge and trying to rest. Not like that actually happens in the hospital, but you know. He was definitely feeling better by the time I left. My sister had brought a reusable shopping bag full of goodies – Twizzlers, Chex Mix, candy, Cheez-Its, etc (and a game LOL) – and he was trying to con me into leaving them for him. LOL Yeah, he’s better. I actually felt okay leaving him there after that.

I didn’t manage to leave the hospital until 8:30 last night and got home around 9. Talked to my older kid for a bit before I crashed. My younger kid is staying with a friend until Wednesday and that’s really the best thing for her. (She’s the one that’s been having the anxiety and stress issues.)

Troy called me this morning around 9:30 and he sounded so much more like himself, it made me feel a thousand times better. His mom walked down to his room around 11 PM last night and he said she acted like nothing had happened. So, either she was doing better or the morphine was doing its job. Probably a little bit of both. LOL They had him up and walking around 5:45 this morning. He didn’t go as far as she did, but he was up and moving, so that’s progress.

Tomorrow, I have to go to the hospital to meet with the team for his post-op instructions. They might let him go home tomorrow, but more than likely they’ll keep him until Thursday. So, I’ll update again later when I have more information.

Thanks for reading to the end. LOL

Thank you so much - ALL of you! The love and support I've been getting has been amazing.

Oh - and thank you again because you were right - it was effing FREEZING in the hospital yesterday.

We really can. He's going to have to make extra effort on the low-carb diet because one of the meds he has to take tends to raise your blood sugar a LOT, but other than that, we can do this!

SO MANY RIGHT BACK!

Oh my gosh...I'm glad you're able to share such great developments. And you must so be happy to have five minutes to take a breath - at least I hope you are finding a few here and there. So glad for all, and may the good news roll! <3

I'm telling you... I hadn't realized how little I'd been sleeping until last night. I don't think I moved until my alarm went off this morning.

I will get a few tonight - my younger girl is still with her friend and my older girl has a concert tonight. So, I'm going to eat dinner, grab my Kindle, and veg out until bedtime!

Thank you so much!
