Title: A Guy Walks into a Bar
Fandom: Romani Detective Original Fiction
Pairing: Andrej Zeklos/James Rosewood + Zayne Reyes
Rating: PG
Word Count: 206
Summary: Zayne is down and goes looking for a drink.
Author’s Note: Written for the Musical May challenge at 1_million_words. Since I made the post regarding country music, I figured I ought to write something for it.
“Detective Reyes,” Elias purred, leaning his hands on the worn bar top. “Don’t tell me you’re back because you’re still fighting your feelings for your partner?”
Zayne made a face but sat on the nearest barstool anyway. “Shut it, Eli,” he snapped. “I’m here because I need a drink.”
“Good thing I have plenty to offer,” Eli joked. “What’s your poison tonight?”
His poison was currently a tall, dark-haired Romani boy, but that was neither here nor there because his asshole partner was too busy shacking up with his damn boyfriend. He hated how much it bothered him because Zeklos deserved to be happy. And the narco seemed to do exactly that.
“Zayne?”
He looked up at Eli and sighed. If anything, Elias would understand what Zayne was going through, having loved and lost Zeklos the same as he had. “Sorry,” he said. “Give me a beer.”
“Just a beer,” Eli asked, reaching for the Dos Equis he had stashed just below the bar. “You look like you could use something stronger.”
Yeah, like a good shot of Romanian moonshine with a chaser of Romani kisses but… no, that wasn’t exactly something he could say either. “Just a beer,” Zayne confirmed. “Beer never broke my heart.”

End note: I just started to cackle... Spotify for the win on the song choice.
