There was a flash of light and the rumble of thunder. Sam looked up from his laptop and glanced towards the windows. “Huh, that’s strange,” he said, getting up to peer through the glass. “Nope, no clouds. Weird.”
Shaking his head, he sat down and started reading the news article he’d pulled up. Halfway into the third paragraph, he saw and heard it again.
“Okay, this is getting weird,” Sam mumbled, getting up to grab a beer from the fridge. When it came this time, he realized it was coming from inside the compound. More to the point, it was coming from the common room.
Sam wandered out into the open area and found Dean grinning.
“That’s so cool, do it again?”
“Dean,” Castiel said, putting on a disgruntled tone, although the smile on his face told a different story. “I’m not sure if I should.”
“Aw, c’mon, please?”
“Well,” Castiel hedged. “Okay.”
He brought his wings out of the ether and into the physical world, filing the room with a bright flash of light and the impression of a giant set of wings. The floor rumbled with the transition of wings from metaphysical to corporeal and then stilled.
“Wow,” Sam said, eyes wide. “Just… wow.”
“Oh hey, Sammy,” Dean said. “Have you seen what Cas can do?”
“Um, yeah,” Sam said, rubbing his eyes with the heels of his hands. “I saw and I think I might be blind now. I’m going back to the kitchen. If you need me…”
“Yeah, yeah,” Dean said, waving him away. “Have fun. Cas…”
Sam rolled his eyes and hightailed it out of the room before Dean convinced Castiel to whip out his wings again. Of all the things he’d expected to catch his brother and the angel doing, that was never even on the list.
“They are so odd,” he laughed. Grabbing his beer, Sam settled back in his chair and tried to read the article again.
