I hear about celebrity deaths or musician deaths and I'm like, "Oh, that's sad. I liked him/her."

But a celebrity chef dies and suddenly I'm, "OH MY GOD, NO! NOT CARL!"

...while standing in line at Sprouts.

Maybe it's because I was surrounded by food? IDK.

Carl Ruiz. He was a regular judge on Guy's Grocery Games. And yeah, I know, I watch entirely too much Food Network.

So true. And god only knows, I like to eat (and cook). :) Plus, he seemed like such a nice guy, honestly.

I've fallen out of touch with the food world, but had heard of him. Sad. :( Also sad I was relieved it wasn't suicide. Right? I'm still so far from even close to accepting A. Bourdain being gone- can't even watch his shows again yet. :\

We're rather Food Network obsessed in our house... hahahaha. Have you heard what happened because everything I've seen hasn't mentioned the cause. Sad all around though, because his interactions with Guy Fieri on Guy's Grocery Games were the best.

I hear you on that though - although I wasn't ever a fan of Anthony Bourdain, to lose someone like that is awful.

An article I read said heart attack, and passed in his sleep - though that was early on, right after it broke. Haven't read anything since.

I was a regular at one of Bourdain's restaurants when I lived downtown, before I'd ever even heard of him. It was amazing- 4 star French food at reasonable prices, informal setting but always comfy and welcoming. Very real- which as caustic as he could be here and there, ya had to give him that he was always himself.

We can hope that it was that peaceful.

That's pretty cool! He was definitely an amazing chef, but his personality was more than I could handle. Not saying it's good or bad, just not for me, you know? And he definitely has my respect for not putting on a face for the cameras.
