So, I got a text from Taylor telling me that my garlic had finally arrived.

That led me to talking to a friend via email and she wondered why you planted garlic in the fall and not the spring like everything else, so I googled to find the answer.

(Hint: Just like onions and other plants in the Allium family, garlic is sensitive to daylength and matures during the longest days of summer. Fall planting gives it a jumpstart on the growing season and it will be one of the first things to come up in the garden next spring.)

Anyway, I'm looking and more questions pop up so I keep reading and then I found this:

Are coffee grounds good for garlic?

Compost such as mushroom or seaweed is great. Other options such as tea leaves and coffee grounds are also good so long as they do not compact and form a crust. ... A further dressing of blood and bone in late winter/early spring will keep your garlic plants leaves and roots growing.

Um, WHAT?

This is extra funny because I ordered the freaking TRANSYLVANIAN GARLIC GUYS.

Okay, so that was horrifying and I thought I ought to share. Happy Friday?

Sunt gata. (Aka, I'm done.)

HAHAHAHA! I love how you all run with this. Had I posted it on FB, I'd have gotten fifty OMG's and EW's and at least one person who had a personal experience with someone who did add blood and bone to their mulch.

But dude, how are your veggies? Are they healthy? Do they self-animate under a full moon? Do you hydrate them with holy water? I have questions!

My dad was a medical lab tech. Growing up in the 70's, before hiv, he used to bring home the expired blood to feed the tomatoes. We had bags of blood in the back hall all summer long. :)

Gardener or witch? Ha. Well, the two aren't all that far apart anyway...
