I probably recced The Godfather to you at some point, so yes, I'm a fan. 30 minutes in you've barely gotten past the wedding, and most of that is a set up. Might want to give it another half-hour, if you're not bought in by the time Michael goes to Italy (it's a book and a nearly 50 year old movie, I'm not going to say 'spoiler alert') then stop.
If you can jump on SyFy and they still have the Resident Alien season 1 episodes available, I highly recommend those.
