Day 2 – May 25, 2021

And here we go.
Today’s workouts: Transform 20: Faster (which I’m fucking NOT, thank you very much) and a 10 minute cool down ride with Cody, aka Boo.
Side note: Troy and I had our fist date on May 25, 1991. I was 16 and he’d just turned 17. A good friend of ours was pregnant, estranged from the baby’s father, and down in the dumps, so she threw a party. It was all over after that. LOL
Write about 5 songs that mean the most to you. Why do the lyrics speak to you? How do you relate to these songs? How do they make you feel when you hear them?
This is such a subjective topic. I mean, ask me tomorrow and I’ll come up with five completely different songs. LOL But this is it for today.
Andy (I Can’t Live Without You) – Ashely McBryde
I know I bring this song up a lot, but it really hits home with me because it’s an accurate description of the relationship I had with my husband. He was a good man, kind, loving, caring but… not always inclined to help out. LOL
I can't live without you
'Cause you've got my back
Even when I'm wrong
You're the only one who knows
Me and my heart can't get along
I got reasons to cry
I can't tell you which one
But you don't ask no questions
You just hold me till I'm done
And when I'm looking to fight you flat refuse
I can't live without you
If You Only Knew – Shinedown
Having a group like Shinedown on here might surprise you, but I love their lead singer’s voice. And their songs are often very relatable to me for many reasons.
It's 4:03 and I can't sleep
Without you next to me I
Toss and turn like the sea
If I drown tonight, bring me back to life
Breathe your breath in me
The only thing that I still believe in is you
If you only knew
This has applied to several people throughout my life. Troy, obviously, but others, too. Way too often I feel like there’s only one person I can truly count on and they have no idea how much I need them.
Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain) – Gary Allan
Hmm… I love Gary Allan and could possibly list half of his discography here on any given day. But this is one of my very favorites because of it’s positive and uplifting message. And knowing some of what he’s gone through after losing his wife to suicide, it gives me a bit of peace whenever I hear it.
So hold your head up and tell yourself that there's something more
And walk out that door
Go find a new rose, don't be afraid of the thorns
'Cause we all have thorns
Just put your feet up to the edge, put your face in the wind
Let it Be – The Beatles
Okay, so I’ve always loved this song (how can you not?), but what cemented it as being meaningful was listing to the story Paul McCartney told about where the lyrics came from. (Check the link here where he’s talking to James Corden about it. Brought me to tears.)
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Asphalt Cowboy – Blake Shelton
This is the only one on the list that I can’t give you a reason for why it means so much to me. It just does. So much so, I took my username from it. It’s on Blake’s second album – The Dreamer – and I fell in love with it the first time I heard it. I even got severely annoyed when Jason Aldean covered it for his first album. Hah! I guess maybe it’s because the song is about doing what you have to so that later you can do the things that you want to, even if you’re not happy about it. Or, it could just be because it’s Blake. Also, it’s the only song without an official video, so sorry about that.
The sun has opened up my eyes
And I don't want to leave your side
For that lonesome road
But here I go
Anyway, hoping you found something you liked in the above selections. And feel free to let me know some of your faves.
