Day 3 – May 26, 2021
May. 26th, 2021 02:36 pmSeveral days ago, I compiled a huge list of journal prompts and would you believe NONE of them are speaking to me today? So, I opted to use a random question generator I use for another purpose to choose today’s topic. This ought to be fun.
If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?
As a writer, I have a huge list of names that I’ve compiled over the years for characters. Some I’d have loved for myself, honestly.
Had I been born on my original due date – July 4th – I would have been named after my great grandmother, Emma Louise. My mother, however, was grateful that I was a stubborn brat and came a week late since she didn’t like Emma and hated Louise. However, I do like Emma (and Emily, too).
I’m quite fond of my middle name as it was my maternal grandmother’s name. Although Suzanne doesn’t have any cute diminutive forms (I am not a fan of Sue or Suzi, honestly, although Sunny I could have lived with), so I won’t be running off to change it to that anytime soon. (And Ann is my sister’s name so…)
Allyson is another favorite of mine. It’s also the name of the first character I remember ‘creating’, so maybe that’s why?
I can’t remember which celebrity couple it is, but they have a daughter named James (and Thomas Rhett has a daughter named Ava James) and I absolutely love that for a girl. But then, James has long been one of my favorite names period so maybe I’m biased?
My grandmother’s middle name was Georgette and she HATED it. She used to add ‘ain’t that a crock’ after whenever you’d ask what it was. But it’s another name I’m very fond of for some reason.
All that said, I’m not sure I would change my name if I could. I don’t have any real attachment to it (and it’s not like my mom didn’t pull it out of thin air as it was), but it’s not a bad name and, after almost 47 years, I’m rather used to it. Hahaha. But, if I was going into WITSEC tomorrow, maybe I’d become Emma James?
Today’s workout: Transform: 20 Stronger and that’s it because I did not want to get out of bed. Maybe I’ll do some yoga before bed.

Date: 2021-05-26 10:21 pm (UTC)Speaking of somebody not liking their middle name, that would be my dad's mom. I would get a serious dirty look when I used it, but then that's expected when someone isn't listening like they were suppose to.

Date: 2021-05-26 10:35 pm (UTC)HAH! I love that. But it's definitely a great way to get someone's attention. Unless, like my favorite ginger, you USE your middle name as your name.

Date: 2021-05-30 11:12 pm (UTC)Me too, and all my siblings. My mother & her sister don't have them either, but their brother does! I actually used to feel like I missed out, especially when we played games where you got to win a game based on someone calling out random letters and everyone taking a step for each time that letter was in their name! The other kids let me choose a name though, so I always chose Elizabeth because it was long and had a Z in it! LOL

Date: 2021-05-27 03:34 pm (UTC)I changed my name to Kaige, kind of. It's the pronunciation of my initials. (I just typo'd that to pornunciation which is accurate as well). I'm never had huge issues with my name, but I don know people who hate theirs. I think it does help to shape and form you, I think your name as you perceive it has a lot of power, but I also like that it wasn't necessarily your choice and that shapes you as well.
I like your name!

Date: 2021-05-27 04:15 pm (UTC)Hahaha — the typos I make during the day sometimes! I always loved people who go by initials, it's fun and different. And you have lovely name, very classic and classy. But I have no doubt having something shorter to use is nice as well.
Your comment reminded me of the cultures that give babies one name for the world to know, but another, secret name that's their true name that only family knows — simply because names do have power. I also like that second point about how you didn't choose it, but it's you. Taylor was originally going to be Sami, but the older she gets, the more I feel like Taylor fits her better than Sami ever would have.
Thank you! It was a gift. LOL
