I can't.

I'm done. Stick a fork in me.

A couple weeks ago, one of our guys tells Jeff that he needs to go home to Texas to take care of his sister. Jeff says okay, no problem, let us know when you're back. (He's always been good about this kind of thing.)

Fast forward to now. I just received an email from our payroll company stating they received an unemployment request from this same employee. Confused, I go back and ask Jeff if Joe officially quit.

"Officially? No," Jeff says. "He went home to take care of his sister. I did send him an email telling him that he's not wanted back, though." Pause. "Guess he got my email."

I must have blinked, rapidly, several times because WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL? You do not put that kind of stuff in writing. EVER. Never mind all that, but you basically fired him, Jeff! When I pointed this out to him, he just said, "Oh."

That sound you hear? It's me, beating my head into my desk because I do not honestly know how much longer I can do this. (That goes for both my job and the head banging. This desk is older than I am and quite sturdy.)

I wonder if Inspector Crazy Pants needs a personal assistant? I type really well and I have a great phone voice.

I'm only half kidding.

Why do our bosses conspire to make things difficult for us? I'm lucky not to have it as much at the current job, but the previous one, I was no stranger to banging my head against things.

Good luck!

I wish I knew! The number of times they've fired someone or someone has quite and no one told me is insane.

Hah, THANKS.

Can I just rant for a minute?

A salesman that we have been dealing with for longer than I have been here lost his father on Friday.. Boss asks me to send an arrangement. I ask when and where and he gives me a funeral home name and the town that the funeral home is in. There is a home with that name the next town over but none of their obits have the same last name as the salesman, and when I google the salesman's last name I can't find an obit. It's not unheard of that they may have different last names, but I don't know if I'm late or early or if I have the right place unless I know more.
I ask if boss knows the fathers name, no, when are the services, Friday. Then he says "Did you call the funeral home?"
Did I call and say "I need to send flowers for a funeral, I don't know the guy's name or the day of the services or if I even have the right funeral home, when should I send them?" No, no I did not.
Now that I know it's Friday I can still order things tomorrow, and will keep checking the website for a listing, but ....

Yes *headdesk*

OMG, that's the exact kind of thing Tim would have done to me and he doesn't have the excuse of having a brain injury like his brother does. He was famous for saying, "Why do you need ALL the information, Amy?"

These men, I swear.

FYI, the obit has now been posted and the flowers have been ordered. Because I know you were going to loose sleep over it.

When I worked for the electrician, I was in the middle of a phone pickle with our estimator and an electrical inspector (who was pissed). Kept putting the inspector on hold to ask estimator questions, having the estimator give me a pissy answer yelled from across the room, telling the inspector, getting yelled as as the inspector asked another question, hold, ask, pissy answer yelled, relay to inspector, yelled at, relay to estimator... until the boss came storming out of his office looked at my tears and yelled "PAUL! PICK UP THE F#$*ING PHONE!" And then the estimator picked up the phone and was so nice and sweet. Not exactly the same scenario, but Yes, the better informed I am the easier it goes. If you ask me to order a weird piece of material and I don't know that I need to know what the pitch of the thread is, then I need to call the vendor back after I can locate you for the information! dragging the job out by however long it takes me to get you to tell me that!!!!

I'm having a day. But I have caramel M&Ms.

That's good to know. I'm glad that you don't have to stress it any longer at least.

Oh good lord! Why'd your estimator even let you handle that phone call? I don't talk to inspectors (the occasional fire inspector aside) unless they're looking to find a plumber on a jobsite. My first instinct is, "Please hold while I find a plumber for you." And these inspectors take so much crap. I've honestly listened to a co-worker give a County fire inspector shit on the phone and basically tell them they don't know what they're looking at. OOOH-KAAAAY. So, I have sympathy for that guy. Your estimator, on the other hand, should have stepped up. Good for your boss though.

I am sorry you're having a day. *hugs* But caramel M&Ms are amazing. It's almost lunch here and... that's all I got.

It was typical for me to call in an inspection request, as I was generally talking to a secretary who would leave the inspector a message. And these were generally on new homes so we weren't able to move further until after the inspection and wouldn't be on site anyway.

I think permit hadn't mentioned everything it should have and the inspector wanted to talk to Paul, but Paul was just Tell him blah blah blah, and wouldn't pick up until the boss got into it. I found out later that the inspector actually got more angry as he could tell I was crying and was even more pissed that Paul wouldn't take the call. Oh man I still hate that man. I know the whole 'don't hate' but this guy and 11 years of his lies and yelling...

I started another Bosch book yesterday, I need to get to the point where they haven't made a season on Amazon about them yet. I enjoy those more.

I do that as well, but I'm guessing you must have a much smaller building department than we do here since ours were all automated (and are now online). With the exception of the Henderson's fire inspectors. It mostly works the same for commercial construction as well. Can't backfill until your underground's passed, can't cover up the walls until the topout's passed. That kind of thing. Although, we usually do have someone on site to meet the inspector.

Ugh, I've been there. GC: It's just a floor sink, we don't need to add it to the permit. Inspector: TF is this floor sink doing here? It's not on the plans! So, yeah, I get it. Aw, at least your inspector had your back. Nah, it's all good. Generally speaking, you shouldn't ever hate anyone. That said, there are a few people who bring it wholly upon themselves and fully deserve it.

Awesome! I think the author said the series started with book #4 and then circled back to the earlier books (maybe?), so I'm not sure where the series ends book-wise.

Hope the rest of your afternoon is better!

It was also 20 years ago and nobody had online automation in town halls, and yes, much smaller municipalities. MUCH!

There have been two people on my list in my lifetime. Most everyone else I try to chalk things up to different personalities or rough days or what ever. There are a couple that I hold grudges, but just dislike. There are just those two ...

Book 2 and 3 were $5 each last week somewhere, and I got another one for free, so I am out of order, but those three, while not exactly the season's plot lines, were covered in the series. I like them, but I've liked the surprise of who-dun-it better, if that makes sense.

THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU!

OH GEEZ. I had no idea it was that long ago. Although, when I started here in 1997, our building departments all had the automated phone scheduling systems. But again, much larger area here.

Right. And that's about how I feel, too. I'm not sure I actively hate anyone at the moment, but there are days when I feel SO MUCH RAGE for certain people. But if you get through your life and you only have 2 or 3 people on your list? You've done good.

I know what you mean. I bought #2 sometime back because it was a Kindle deal. And I have a couple of the audiobooks because they were part of a BOGO on Audible. I'll have to fill in the gaps. But YES! I totally get that. As much as I love a good crime show, reading it is so much more intense.

RIGHT BACK ATCHA! <3

Well, I left there almost 20 years ago and I worked there for 11 years so we're looking at the mid to late 90s. I was still sending invoices in triplicate and had a typewriter on my desk. Man am I old!

Just the two.

There is a romantic liaison in the book I just finished and I was very much "EWWWWWW." Not that it was het, but that it was like he didn't know his audience and didn't want to offend anyone. And too, it is 25 years old and written with less of an appreciation of women than is expressed in the show. Not bad, just not... contemporary.

I'm going home now. Hot dogs and knitting by the pool!
Thank you for this afternoon!

OMG, that sounds like my job back when I started here. I *still* have a typewriter I use though.

That's amazing.

Yeaaaaaaaaah. Some men need to skip that part! Some women, too. Which one did you just finish?

Enjoy your hot dogs and knitting! And anytime — it's why I'm here!

Cool! Hopefully you can find them relatively inexpensively. If not, let me know. I might be able to get them either through PaperbackSwap or my local used bookstore. Thought I had a copy of the first, but I'd have to look. :)

Unfucking believable!!!

He has no concept when it comes to running a business.

I feel bad for the guy.

Seriously. I cut him a lot of slack because of his injury, but this was just stupid on his part.

Apparently our two general foremen thought he was a useless plumber, but still. I'm just... done.
