So, my prompt for the weekend challenge was: "To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides."—David Viscott
I haven't written much in months, haven't finished anything in weeks. This is not good, but I finished it. Damn it, it's done. So, presented as is and without further commentary.
It was all so new to her, the thought that someone might want to be with her. That someone might actually like her, someday love her. How absurd was it that someone, especially someone like him, chose to be here, in this booth, sharing a meal with her?
His smile lit her heart aflame and his laugh made her insides warm. It was such an odd yet pleasant sensation, to feel like she was going to spontaneously combust. Or at least melt from the inside out.
It was apparently contagious, this thing called affection, that emotion that could blossom and grow into something else called love. Because she felt it too, for him, and for what they had together.
She didn’t know if it was going to last, or even if it’d amount to something more than what it already was. But she didn’t care. She had now, and now was good. Now was progress and the future was unknowable. For now, she had his attention, his warmth, his smile. And it was enough. All she could hope was that he felt the same, that she was able to give him what he needed in this moment as he was giving to her.
