Author's Note: Double challenge word score - written for both the A to Z challenge and the daily word challenge at 1_million_words. One of the recent words was 'brumal' which means wintry. Obviously, winter here in the desert is nothing like it is on the east coast... or Romania for that matter.
“Good god, it’s cold out here,” Zayne said, shoving his hands into the pouch of his hoodie.
Andrej stopped walking. “I told you to wear something warm, Zayne.” He scrunched up his nose at the burnt orange University of Texas pullover his partner was wearing. “This is not what I call warm.”
“It’s warm enough usually,” Zayne defended. “How was I to know that the damn rain was going to turn into a freaking snow flurry?”
“Maybe when I said we were going to Red Rock this morning?” Andrej shook his head and started walking again. “It does not get much snow, however, we have been having colder than normal temperatures and –”
“Okay, okay,” Zayne grunted. “I’m sorry. Okay?”
Andrej stopped walking again. “Do you want to wait in the car?”
“No,” Zayne said, suddenly embarrassed. “I can see the visitor’s center. It’ll be warm – or at least warmer – inside.”
“Maybe next time you will heed my warnings?”
“Maybe I’ll move back to Texas and not worry about this shit, too,” Zayne grumbled.
Turning so that Zayne didn’t see the smile on his face, Andrej began walking again. “I hear they have hot cocoa in the visitor’s center.”
He could almost hear Zayne’s shudder of anticipation.
