A few weeks ago, Jakub re-engineered our time cards so that the guys had more specific labor codes.  Before it was simply underground, topout, and finish.  But, with a couple of the upcoming jobs we have, we needed something more detailed.  Jakub came through as always.

The codes in the box are our new ones. However, one of my guys decided that they weren't quite inclusive enough and had to add a few more to the list:

I told Brian that we needed one more: 21 - I have too much free time when I shouldn't.

HAH.

I got a good laugh out of it.

I joke that I'm 14 all the way — non-productive labor. HAH.

lol that's great. I've worked at places where 19 & 20 were rampant.

Oh, the things I could add to one of those, my one coworker pre-lockdown would have a lot of time against "Flirting With Man Who's Not Interested", "Facebook messaging In The Bathroom", "Ignoring the Phone" and "Faffing About with the Stationery Cupboard when there's more urgent stuff to do". More recently it's been "Reading books at work instead of working".

Ex-boss would have had "Criticising people for typos when she is typo queen", "excessive amount of calls from partner", and "telling people off about nothing". Her nickname was Umbridge, which is all you need to know about her.

Hahaha — almost all of those would apply here, too!

My former boss would pick up on the smallest typos (things that were obviously typos and not misspellings) and point them out and then turn around and completely misuse words. He was something else. Oh god, if she was half as bad as ol' Delores, then I feel for you.

The thing with Umbridge was that she was following in the footsteps of a previous manager who was much too hands off (I understand now, better than I did at the time I worked for her, that the structure in place at the time was a part of the problem, because she managed lots of staff, based in several different sites, and she never spent any real time in the same building as any of us) — she had no real understanding of what actually went on on a day to day basis, and if anyone brought an issue to her, she would form her own conclusions of what happened and act on that, without investigating properly, and then only realise those conclusions were wrong when the evidence was staring her in the face. For this reason, HER nickname was Cornelius Fudge.

This blew up in her face because the then-CEO wanted her to make savings, but because she had so little idea of what everyone did, she wasn't able to justify her arguments for not cutting posts, and the CEO shut her down. She then approved a new structure that cut too many posts, and by the time the year was up, lots of temps had been hired, with another new structure again drawn up early the following year hiring for all those roles again, and Fudge was removed from her management post. Umbridge had watched a lot of this unfold, and was involved in clearing up the mess left behind, and she was so determined to avoid making Fudge's mistakes that she went too far in the other direction and became Umbridge, and couldn't quite see that that in itself could be a mistake.

Holy moly, what a mess! That happens though — you have one manager who is hands off for whatever reason (in this case, not entirely their fault) and then the next comes in and is too hands on. Hopefully they can figure out a middle ground before you all go crazy and/or quit.
