So much has happened in the last week, I don't even know where to start. Well, okay, so that's an exaggeration, but it has been a busy week.
First and foremost, this past Monday, Taylor graduated with her BSN - which is a bachelor of nursing science degree. Once she gets the code from her school proving she graduated, she can schedule the NCLEX, which is her licensing exam. Between now and then, she's looking for a position as a student nurse.
Maddie and I went to get my mom since I knew that if I left it up to her, she wouldn't make it. (She doesn't like driving in areas she doesn't know, which I get, but it's not an excuse mom!) The whole way from her house to the venue and then back, she criticized Maddie's driving. It drove me nuts. The ceremony was great. VERY light hearted, even though I did cry. The change in Taylor from that morning to after she got her diploma was amazing. She looked so relieved and like a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Cue my mother criticizing her dress. For the love of god, she's 23 years old! She's 5' 1" and about 115 lbs soaking wet. THE GIRL CAN PULL IT OFF. And hell, even if she couldn't but had the confidence to try? Why would I stop her? But, my mother is also 76 and from a small, Midwest town. So, I get it But holy hell, keep it to yourself. LOL
Tuesday would have been Troy's 49th birthday, which made me sad. However, my in-laws decided to do a combo dinner to celebrate Taylor's graduation and to remember Troy. We went to a pizza place he'd always liked and had a really nice dinner.
Thursday, I was blessed with a day off and a visit from Kaige. She, her sister, and I sat by the pool at one of the local casinos and didn't do a dang thing for like 8 hours. 🤣🤣 I guess the one bonus to having to pay for parking is I know how long I spent there. HAH. We had an amazing day and it was so nice to be able to sit and chat and drink and do nothing of import! We also had a lovely dinner with a rather odd waiter. But then, you have to be a little left of center to survive working on the Strip as it is.
Friday, I lazed about at home and didn't do anything that I didn't have to do. Taylor was dog sitting for a friend on the other side of town, so she left early on Friday and I didn't see her again until Sunday.
Saturday was the usual. I grocery shopped but also hit Target and Whole Foods (which I usually do on Sunday), so I didn't have to go out on Mother's Day. That night, Maddie and her friend had a music festival they were attending, so she split around noon and I didn't see her for a good 24 hours. LOL So, I finsihed one book and watched way too many episodes of Sister Wives. I really should not be left alone with the TV, just sayin'. I did also do my laundry and vacuum the floors though, so that's something, right?
Sunday, we had dinner at my mom's house. I made a salad and some vegan pasta for Taylor. My mom tries, but she can't grasp the fact that vegans do not eat dairy or eggs, so she never quite has anything Taylor can eat. Also, no one thought of the poor kid when it came to desserts either. I felt bad and my sister felt even worse, so she ordered a half dozen vegan donuts from Pink Box. 🤣 It really is nice that she cares as much for my children as she does her own. It was a really nice visit, even if I did somehow manage to piss my sister-in-law off. We were trying to figure out if any of the deserts were vegan or not, and Liz (SIL) suggested the cobbler my brother made. My sis says, "But there's butter in the crust." (We'd just been talking to my brother about that.) She says, "Taylor doesn't eat butter?" I said, "She's a vegan." Liz must have thought I was being bitchy because she said something I didn't quite catch and acted very defensively about it. But dang, Taylor's been a vegan for 3 1/2 years now. HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW? LOL
Something that did make me crack up though was my sister told me my mom said to her. "I wonder if Amy's dating anyone yet." My sister, horrified, says, "If she wants you to know, she'll tell you! And don't you dare ask her on Sunday either!" I then told her that mom would have a fit if she knew I'd had lunch with a man back in November. My sister acted all mock shocked and then laughed. I did, too, but mostly because my mother would need the services of my nurse daughter and my EMT-certified nephew when she found out that that man was Mexican. 😁 (See above about small town, consevative Midwest upbringing.)
Sunday night was quiet. The girls went to their rooms, I sat downstairs and read. Oh! OOOOH! And the Vegas Golden Knights won the second round! I'm kind of glad. While I have nothing against the Edmonton Oilers, every time I saw "Oilers" I kept thinking the old Houston Oilers football team. I was so dang confused every game. LOL I'm shocked Taylor didn't text me when the game was over last night.
Anyway.... that's my long winded recap of the busiest week I've had in months. Hope you're all doing well. And, if you have children, I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day as well!

Date: 2023-05-23 06:27 pm (UTC)Yes and yes. In this case, it's where Kaige was staying. But also, a lot of the hotels will let you use the pool for a fee. I know the one (off Strip) near my house charges like $30 for the day. Which is a lot, but the hotel pools tend to be really nice.
