End of Year Book Meme
Jan. 20th, 2025 12:43 pmEven if I am a bit late since we're halfway to February already.
Meme stolen from Book Nook over on Dreamwidth.
I Read: how many books in 2024? 117, I think.
My Reading Goal: did you have a goal, and how do you feel about it? I had a loose goal of 100 books, give or take.
I Challenged Myself: did you do any reading challenges? how did you do? did you like it? No real challenges other than the Goodreads yearly challenge. I always forget about the prompts.
A New Genre I Attempted: did you try a new genre, and if so, how did you feel about it? Cozy fantasy! I love it!
An Author New-to-me in 2024 I Really Enjoyed: Travis Baldree, but also J. Penner.
My Favorite Book of the Year: 😬 Lordy, I don't even know! Legends & Lattes for sure. Also, Starter Villain. I adore John Scalzi.
Books I Read in 2024 That I Recommend: The two above, obviously. Also, Hester. The Witch of Willow Hall. Ayode on Top (but only after you've watched View From the Top). The Crown Jewels Regency Myster series.
My Reading Goal: do you have a goal, and how do you feel about it? 100 books since it seems to be about where I fall every year.
I'm Going to Challenge Myself: do you plan on doing any reading challenges? I want to finish or catch up on at least two series that I have outstanding. One would be the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs, if I'm lucky.
My TBR List: do you have one for 2025? how long is it? any plans? Yes and no. I'm keeping track of the freebies I acquire and want to read them the year I grab them instead of letting them linger. Also, I have been playing hold roulette with my library holds. I'd like to get those cleaned up as well.
Books I'm Especially Interested in Reading in 2025: John Scalzi has a new book coming out this year and Michael Connelly has two(!!), so I'm excited for both of those.
A Book Coming Out in 2025 That I'm Excited About: MORE MICKEY HALLER.
Other Book-Related News for 2025 I'm Interested In: A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic by J. Penner is getting a deluxe edition, much like Travis Baldree's books did last year. I'm excited for that.

Date: 2025-01-21 12:29 am (UTC)The next Travis Baldree also comes out in November... I am considering pre-ordering the kindle version. Since I have the other two in paperback, I don't want to get it in hardcover.

Date: 2025-01-21 01:24 am (UTC)I KNOW. I'll likely preorder the audio and wait and see if they release a deluxe hardback like they did for the first two. Since I just bought those a few months ago.

Date: 2025-01-21 03:06 am (UTC)Right? If I'm gonna buy hardcover, I want the pretty ones.

Date: 2025-01-21 07:20 pm (UTC)Yes ma'am! And boy are they pretty!

Date: 2025-01-21 09:57 pm (UTC)I got to hold them when I was in Knoxville in November and they really are. They're on my "when you build your library" list. Which will hopefully be in the next five years. Maybe a bit more. It's my goal for once my doctorate is finished.

Date: 2025-01-22 10:47 pm (UTC)I've had an ever-expanding library since I was a kid. But books are my one big obsession.
There's another cozy fantasy series by J. Penner that's getting the deluxe edition treatment starting in April. The first book is called A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic. It's like fantasy but make it the Great British Bake Off. LOL

Date: 2025-01-22 10:55 pm (UTC)Same! I'm actually going to build shelves in my bonus room downstairs and design a library.
That sounds lovely. Our library doesn't have it, so I'll have to add it to my Amazon wish list.

Date: 2025-01-22 11:01 pm (UTC)That sounds really nice!
If you KU, it's on there. Otherwise, it's $4.99, which is acceptable (and at my high end of what I'll pay for an e-book).

Date: 2025-04-21 08:26 pm (UTC)I hope so. I'm planning it out and working out how to build it. But I'm hoping by the end of the year, I'll have it at least started.
I don't KU, but thanks! 4.99 isn't bad. (Yeah, I'll pay more for a well-known author that I have already read than for someone I've not heard of.)

Date: 2025-04-21 09:00 pm (UTC)Good luck with it!
I hate paying for something I don't truly 'own'. Which is why I get the majority of my books from the library or borrow from KU.
Keeping Kindle Unlimited is my one concession to Amazon, otherwise Taylor would bankrupt me buying books.

Date: 2025-05-30 01:24 am (UTC)Thank you. I think I have an idea of how I'm going to do it. I just need the money to buy the supplies.
I get that. If I really like it, I tend to buy the physical book anyway. Sometimes.
LOL. I haven't tried it yet. I'm not sure I read enough books to do KU.

Date: 2025-01-22 04:34 pm (UTC)Starter Villain was amazing, but Lock In was well done if not as fun.
I'm going to say that Husbands was up there last year as well.
Crown Jewels grabbed me in a way I didn't expect. I hate that we have to wait for more.
I love this list!

Date: 2025-01-22 05:49 pm (UTC)Lock In was also fantastic. We need to put Head On onto the list for this year, too.
It was such a bizarre book, but I kind of liked the idea of being able to switch out husbands. Hah.
I agree. I've always enjoyed historical novels, but never thought about historical mysteries. The whole series is really good. Hopefully the audio for #4 releases SOON.
Thank you!
