Small annoyances
Jan. 14th, 2026 01:07 pmLittle things that have been annoying me lately.
First, I want to start off by saying my stepfather scared the bejeezus out of me this morning. I was feeding the cats when my phone rang. It wasn't quite 6 AM yet and my stepfather has been in the hospital since 12/27 with various issues, so that alone was enough to make my stomach drop. I grab my phone and see his name on the phone and not my mom's, which only increased my panic. In all the years he and my mom have been married (over 30 years now), I don't think he has EVER called me before. I was certain something had happened to my mom.
No, he had just been watching the news and saw there was a big fire in my area and was worried it was near me. I appreciate his concern but good god, Don. 😂 Thankfully, the fire was quite a ways away from me.
Now, on to the truly trivial stuff.
I used to work for three brothers. The oldest retired at the end of 2020. The youngest retired in 2022. The middle still runs the company with his two sons. The ownership officially changed over in 2022 and we got new business licenses, new TIN, the whole nine yards. Brother #1 and 3 formed their own company for whatever it is they do now in 2022 as well. However, I am STILL getting their mail. TF? I am no longer your secretary, sir!
Lastly, one of my office co-workers yet again failed to turn his time card in this morning. And when I ask for it, he's, "Oh, you need that? You know the hours I worked." He's salaried, so yes, I do, but bro, you're 58 years old. BE RESPONSIBLE.
And that's my rant for today. Hope that all your problems are little ones today.

Date: 2026-01-15 03:06 am (UTC)My brother never wants anyone to call him. It's all about the texts. Because if we call, he gets nervous that something may have happened to either one of our parents. I don't like it when my folks call me at work either for the same reason. So yeah, out of the blue calls have that effect.
Can you stick their mail in a bin and if no one comes by to empty it out in three months, it goes to the circular file. Anybody still mailing stuff to people who haven't been at the company in years are just selling something.
I'm glad we don't have time cards to collect, but the boneheads I work with try to get away with so much crap it makes me mental. And yes, you have to treat them like they're three year olds half the damn time. I feel your pain.

Date: 2026-01-15 09:07 pm (UTC)I can totally understand that, it's how I feel whenever one of my kids calls me. Mom always calls though, she has macular degeneration so her eyes aren't great these days.
I wish, but because they're all brothers I have to be nicer than that. LOL It's all on the youngest brother because he never changes his information.
We tried using a timekeeping app provided by our payroll company but the guys would forget to clock in or out, or clock in 15 minutes early and another 15 minutes late and they yell at me on Friday because they were 'missing' their OT. Sorry, buddy, but that wasn't OT, that was you being sneaky. I'm so glad you understand. And I love my guys, but sometimes, I think they believe I'm either stupid or oblivious with the stuff they try and get away with.

Date: 2026-01-15 06:02 am (UTC)It's funny how communication changes over the decades. If I'm leaving a message for most of my relatives who are one step out (aunt, uncle, cousins) I'll start right off with "hey it's me, it's nothing urgent, so you know....' 'Cause we don't call each other anymore. There was a day the 'it's not urgent' would have been assumed. Lol
My own small annoyance this week is the stress caused by my neighbors and their animals. I'll keep it short (and less horrifying) by simply saying it involved a weasel and the last of their surviving peacocks. Who is surviving no more. :(. They're not evil people, but they're kind of on my shit list at the moment. Protect your animals or do not have them.

Date: 2026-01-15 09:09 pm (UTC)Seriously! The only person outside of my mom who called me regularly was Troy. Anyone else calls and I panic.
Oh no, how sad. The pictures I took of him on your deck randomly show up on my Echo Show sometimes and they always make me smile. I'm 100% with you though. Our animals are precious gifts, we should treat them that way. (Which is why Violet hasn't become homeless these last couple of weeks.)

Date: 2026-01-15 11:32 pm (UTC)She looks like a little angel in all the pics, lol. Is she a 'get up at 5am' kitty? That would drive me up the wall.
I need to resist the urge to get another one. I forget they have claws on the paws and strong opinions about what they want.

Date: 2026-01-15 11:52 pm (UTC)She really is a sweet girl, but since Gideon was diagnosed as chonky, they haven't been allowed to free feed any longer. And even though it's been a year, she still wakes me up at midnight and then again around 3 AM because she's hungry. Which is all fine, I can get up, feed them, and go back to bed in less than ten minutes. BUT the last couple of weeks, when I go back upstairs, she follows me and cries and cries until I go back downstairs. I wind up sleeping on the couch because it's the only thing that calms her down. I plan on asking the vet about it when they go in a couple of weeks.
Aw, I can understand why you might not want another, but my house would be so lonely without a critter of some kind.

Date: 2026-01-16 12:17 am (UTC)Hopefully the diagnosis is that she just likes the couch! Lol. Crying overnight for my first kitty turned out to be thyroid — and it got better with meds. But then from age 15 through 17.5 she had a bit of kitty dementia and would get confused and cry at night. I'll never know how I put up with being woken up 3-4 times a night for three years, but I did 'cause I loved her.
This is the longest I've been without one. Will see! I keep saying the distribution system will take care of it.

Date: 2026-01-16 12:45 am (UTC)The last couple of nights she's been sleeping on my bed like she used to, so hopefully she's turning a corner. She does have anxiety issues though, so between NYE, the rain we got that night, and the fireworks, she was probably overwrought. I hope so anyway.
Oh the poor baby. I've heard about cats that do this, and it's both frustrating and heartbreaking. And it's amazing the things we'll do for our babies.
The CDS will deliver! I just hope you don't wind up with a dog like someone on Reddit did. 😂

Date: 2026-01-15 11:08 am (UTC)I've had no heat in my library all week and the district's solution (while they try to fix it) is 4 tiny space heaters... two of which immediate tripped the breaker.
We've also had no internet since Tuesday afternoon because the workers cut the trunk line where they are building a new bridge. So actually 2/3 of our district has no internet.
It's been a fun week...

Date: 2026-01-15 09:11 pm (UTC)That's not minor though. I've been there — both at home and at work. I once even had my AC keel over in the middle of a Vegas summer.
And that's insane. I'm shocked it's taken so long to get it repaired since so much of what we do these days relies on having internet access.
