Dashboard Confessional #1A
Feb. 27th, 2026 08:39 amI used to do these a lot on my old Blogger account - pictures I took at stoplights, things I saw or heard, whatever. But just things that happened while I was driving. I might have even posed a couple here in the past, but lets start over, shall we?
This morning, on my way in to work, I spotted a little SUV - I can't remember what brand it was, but like a grown up GeoTracker (if you know what those are lol) - and the wheel cover on the back had a sasquatch and a phrase from Tolkien that I have always liked: "Not all who wander are lost." I thought it was fitting due to it being on the back of a car as well as the cryptid in the center.
This led me to think about my favorite Tolkien quote, this one from The Hobbit. "Gandalf looked at him. 'My dear Bilbo!' he said. 'Something is the matter with you! You are not the hobbit that you were.'"
The above quote resonated with me from the very beginning because I, like Hobbits, don't like to leave home much. I'm in my hole in the ground, living my life, reading my books, petting my cats, eating second breakfast. However, much like Bilbo, I'm about to embark on a magnificent journey. However, I'm only going to New Zealand, not to find a dragon or giant ass spider. 😂
Also,
kaige68 I thought about you on the drive home last night. I encountered a little blue Hyundai with a plate that read BTSUGA. I might have even shouted when I saw it.
Lastly, while not taken from my Jeep, I did snap this photo of our mountains to the north last week when we got so much rain.

ETA: I looked after discovering I already had a tag and I have one other post like this so now it's #1A. Hahaha.

Date: 2026-03-03 07:40 pm (UTC)Hahaha, right? Hobbits have the life. Well, until a wizard wanders into their midst. It's a fantastic quote and I relate a little too well.
Thanks, they are so pretty with a bit of snow on them. Otherwise, they're just kinda brown. (I still love them though.)

Date: 2026-02-28 12:31 am (UTC)I love both of those Hobbit quotes. I hope you enjoy your magnificent journey to New Zealand and don't encounter any giant ass spiders there. (If you do though, take a picture.)
I miss seeing the mountains.

Date: 2026-03-03 07:35 pm (UTC)Thank you! It has a lot of good lines in it.
Hahaha. I'd be more worried if I was going to Australia. But of course I'll have to have evidence of the BAS if I find one.
They really do add to the landscape, don't they?

I laugh because both times it's been Suga, too!
That will help with the not being ready and get you motivated!

Date: 2026-02-28 09:51 pm (UTC)I had to laugh about the spider. If it had been a few years back, I could find you one to photograph, but they've taken the Avondale Spider (not alive) down while they revamp the town centre.
You'll spot some other giant ass things while we're here! NZ has this thing about giant sculptures, so remind me to stop in some of the places for you to take photos! I'm kinda sad the spider's not there now!
Lovely photo!
So looking forward to showing you some middle earth to go with your quotes! 🧝 🕷 🧙

Date: 2026-03-02 10:20 pm (UTC)Aw, that would have been cool!
Hahaha — I kinda love that you have a bunch of giant sculptures. I will try and remind you because that's fun stuff to see and remember.
Thanks. :)
I'm anxious to see it myself. I've already set up my vacation responder for my email and it says that 'since I'll be lunching with Hobbits, I won't have access to my email'. I had to make sure to add that last point because when I went to see K and Dreamy for the eclipse, I had a contractor angry with me because I couldn't send her a new invoice while I was sitting at the airport!
Onward to the Hobbits!
