Conversations in Costco
May. 28th, 2026 10:10 amSounds like a story title, doens't it? Someone would find Zayne's dead body in a corner, buried under bags of cat food if he and Andrej ever attempted a Costco run together, I think.
Anyway... will have to tuck that idea away for later.
Last week, my older child, Taylor, texted to say she needed to go to Costco. We always go together since she doesn't need 12 rolls of paper towels and 96 rolls of toilet paper. Since her work schedule varies, I told her to let me know when she wanted to go, but that this Thursday (today) was the only day I couldn't. She chooses Wednesday and the three of us meet up at Costco last night.
I'm pushing the cart, looking at things as the girls pick up the things they need. Out of nowhere, Taylor asks, "So, what are you doing tomorrow?" I never have anything going on, so I'm not surprised she asked. So, I start with, "Remember I said I was going to Chicago in August?"
I barely get that out before Maddie says, "She's going to get a light stick!" Which of course, confused Taylor. I explained it was for the BTS concert and she yells - IN THE FROZEN FOOD SECTION OF COSTCO - "WHAT? BTS? WHEN DID YOU BECOME A FAN?"
This child, I swear to god.
The thing is, while I'm not sure I'd call myself a fan, their music has crept into my regular listening rotation. I have two BTS playlists saved on Spotify and a BTS station on Pandora. They have great voices, are fantastic dancers, and just seem like fun guys in general. And I'm always up to add something new to the rotation. This is not to say that the concert itself won't be an experience. I went to a New Kids on the Block concert back in the late 80's/early 90's so my sister didn't have to go alone with our neighbor and his granddaughter. It turned out to be a really good show. So, why not, right?
I will say that BTS fans are a bit nuts. They're playing their last show here tonight and when I drove past the place they're playing this morning, there was a line nearly out of the stadium parking lot where fans were waiting for merch, I guess. They have better weather this week at least. It was 58 when I left the house.
And that's my ridiculousness for the day. Be well!
