I saw this yesterday on Facebook and thought to post it, but hesitated.  Then, after hearing the news of Leonard Nimoy's passing this morning, I decided I had to.  It's crude, a little gross, but really - Star Trek is the ship (so to speak) that launched fan fiction.

[livejournal.com profile] peppermint_wow, I thought of you both when I saw this, and then again this morning when I heard the news.

I will say that I wasn't ever a huge fan of the original Star Trek series, not having gotten on the fan train until The Next Generation.  However, in high school, a good friend of mine gave me a book for Christmas one year called Prime Directive by Judith Reeves-Stevens.  It was the first ST:TOS book I'd read, and I really fell in love with it.  But somehow, despite this, Spock was a fixture of my childhood all the same.  So, this news took me a bit by surprise this morning.

But... I'm still laughing at that comic.  First, becuase it's funny.  Second, because I'm employed by a plumbing company and potty humor is big around here.

And if the above is a bit too nasty, there's always this, too:

(I really do have the dumbest sense of humor ever)

Live long and prosper, my friends.

LOL, I love the pictures! :D I needed something like that to put a smile on my face today. *hugs*

I'm still floored by the news. Spock's always been such a large and in charge feature of my life. I can't believe Mr. Nimoy's gone.

This is one of the reasons I love fandom. Even sitting here in my room, reading over such sad news, I don't feel like I'm alone because I know we're all thinking the same things and remembering our favorite Nimoy moments. :)

I laughed so hard at that first one yesterday. And I'm so glad I was able to give you a smile. *hugs back*

I know! I hadn't even heard he'd gone to the hospital earlier this week, either. It's so sad.

Amen to that. And when I spontaneously burst into tears at work my normally not-so-understanding co-worker completely got it. This is the beauty of the internet though.

HA! I love both of them, and couldn't resist a snigger.

I watched some Trek as a kid but was never fully invested; all the same, Spock was HUGE in terms of how much Trek has been quoted and seen around in pop culture, plus there's that whole fanfic thing inspired by the original slash couple themselves.

Well said!

YES! I laughed too, harder than I probably should have, I'm sure.

See, that's exactly how I felt. He (and the rest of the crew) became such a huge part of pop culture that you can't NOT know who they all are. And that takes them way past the stage of being simply an iconic character and into the realm of something more.

Thanks!
