Title: Wings
Fandom: Common Law
Pairing: Travis Marks/Wes Mitchell
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 604
Summary: Wes wakes up with something he didn’t have the night before.  And not just Travis this time.
Author’s Note: Prompt of "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you didn't have wings yesterday, right?"

Wes stood before the mirror, bare chested and confused.  With his left shoulder pointed at the mirror, he gave his half naked body a long look before turning the other direction and repeating the process.  Drawing both shoulders forward, he craned his neck and looked over at his back.

“Well, hell,” he muttered.

He saw the familiar dark head of his lover move into the mirror and he smiled.  Travis’ reaction to this latest development ought to be interesting, if nothing else.  “Morning, Marks.”

“Mornin’ Mitchell,” Travis mumbled, pushing past the blond on his way to the restroom.  He stopped with his hand on the doorknob, eyes fixed on Wes’ back.  “Correct me if I’m wrong, but you didn’t have wings when we went to bed together last night, did you?”

A slight grin cracked Wes’ face.  Leave it to Travis to be more concerned with whether or not he was losing his mind by not noticing than he was with the fact that his lover had sprouted wings overnight.  “No, Travis, I didn’t.  They were here when I woke up.”

“Huh,” Travis said, rubbing a hand against his chin.  “Interesting.”

“Is that all you have to say?”  Wes turned to face his lover, back turned to the mirror.

Travis peered over the blond’s shoulder and looked at his wings reflected in the mirror.  “They’re very pretty. Are they lavender or just one of those odd, pinkish purple grey colors?”

“You are impossible,” Wes growled, pressing both hands against Travis’ chest and attempting to shove.

“Baby, wait,” Travis said, calming him.  “You’re the one who asked if ‘that was all I had to say’, weren’t you?  Well, I’m saying more.  I like ‘em.  How big are they?”

“I – I don’t know,” Wes muttered, looking over his shoulder and lifting the wings experimentally.  “You know, I think they might just be lavender.  How weird is that?”

“Not weird at all,” he said, turning Wes to the side and gently extending one wing as far as he could.  “Huh, a good four feet to this side at least.  Impressive.  And I like lavender.  It suits you and your blond self.”

“What do you think this means,” Wes asked, afraid of what Travis might have to say in response.

Marks shrugged.  “Other than I always knew I was sleeping with an angel?  Not sure.”

“I’d call you an ass for that, but well, it was kind of sweet,” Wes confessed.

“Does that mean you want to call in sick and go back to bed?”  Travis’ face was lit with the possibilities.

“I can’t exactly call in and say I spontaneously grew wings, can I?”  He ruffled his wings and watched as the feathers settled into a less mussed state.  “Sorry. I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m just a little weirded out right now.”

“Understandable,” Travis said, smoothing a hand down the edge of one wing.  Wes shuddered, a delicious chill coursing through him.  “Hmm, you like that, I see.  I’ve gotta remember that one.  Go back to bed and I’ll call the cap.”

“Thanks,” Wes said, scooting past Travis and heading towards his bedroom.  “Just FYI though: if you sprout horns and a tail, I’m leaving you.”

“But what if I sprout a halo instead?”

“Fat chance of that, buster,” Wes chuckled.  He exited the bathroom and shook his wings out, little lavender feathers floating on the current from the air conditioner.  “But stranger things have happened.”  Like the two of them hooking up, for instance.  Wes had bigger things to worry about than that, however.  And those things were currently attached to his back.

LOL, where did you find that prompt? I love it! :DDD

Other than I always knew I was sleeping with an angel?

Awwwwwwwww!!! What a sweetie-pie! I like that they're taking this whole wing thing in stride. I'd probably be freaking out. But hey, the prospect of spending all day in bed with Travis could probably sooth even the most jittery of nerves. ;)

Hah! I get daily prompts from Figment.com - a writing community like Wattpad and others. But I found it hysterical when I first read it.

Hee! Travis sure has his skills, and sweet-talking is high on that list. ROFL - I know I'd be freaking out, too, but I'm sure Wes would agree with you. Going back to bed and forgetting about it works just as well. :D

Ooo, I've never heard of figment.com. It looks pretty cool, though!

LOL, I love the go-back-to-bed method of dealing with spontaneous wing sprouting. XD

I've never posted anything there and, now that I'm thinking about it again, I should put some of my original fic up maybe. They have a ton of giveaways and contests, so it's really nice.

I like the go-back-to-bed method of avoiding ALL of life's little problems, but alas, I'm not allowed to use it. :)
