Title: Babycakes
Fandom: None - one shot
Pairing: Jacob Shaw/Morgan McCallum
Rating: G
Word Count: 566
Summary: After years of trying, Jacob and Morgan finally achieve their dreams.
Author's Note: From the prompt here.  I had toyed with the idea of impregnating Murphy, but I wasn't sure Ethan could handle that.  Besides, I've already made them vampires, what more can I do to these two?  Also, I stole the title for this from a book by Armistead Maupin. I think he might not be all that angry in the end.

It had taken seven years, four doctors, and innumerable rounds of fertility treatments, but it had finally happened.  Jacob was expecting.

The pregnancy hadn’t been easy and Jake wound up bedridden for the last trimester.  To say he was getting anxious would be a gross understatement.  But that was Jacob for you – eager and antsy.  It was one of the things that had drawn Morgan to him in the first place.  All that abundant energy needed an outlet, and Morgan had had the perfect method of funneling it for better use.  Jacob had been more than agreeable and their friendship turned into something more before either had realized.
Now, Jake had reached – and passed – the impending due date and that left them both worried and afraid.  Despite the doctor’s reassurances that a good number of first pregnancies ran late, they still fretted.  Just when they’d both thought that the baby wouldn’t ever arrive – she surprised them all.  Delivered in a blaze of glory and magnificent cries of outrage, Emmaline Rae Shaw-McCallum was everything her fathers had hoped she’d be.  Healthy, hearty, and a wild banshee worthy of her half-Irish roots.

Morgan reached his arms out to accept the squalling bundle of red-faced baby.  Clutching her close to his chest, he fell instantly, irrevocably in love with the squirming ball of spitfire wrapped in a blanket.  “So much like your papa,” he whispered, kissing the wisps of her strawberry blonde hair.  “Loud and obnoxious and gorgeous.”
“I heard that,” Jacob drawled from the bed.  “Bring her here, baby.”

Morgan sat on the narrow bed beside his lover, bringing their child down to settle on Jacob’s chest.  Jake touched his daughter’s tiny fist with one seemingly overlarge finger.  “She’s perfect, Morg.  Absolutely perfect.”

“She was more than worth the wait,” Morgan agreed.  “The impeccable addition to our already flawless family.”

“Indeed,” Jabob said, chuckling as the infant rooted instinctively for something she wasn’t going to find.  “The nurse left a bottle, Morgan.  Would you –” Before he could finish the request, the bottle was in his hand.

Morgan watched as Jacob juggled both baby and bottle until he was holding her like an old pro.  Emma latched on and sucked hungrily, grunting contentedly as she ate.  When the suckles slowly turned to sighs, Jake handed the bottle over and patted the little one’s back until she released a belch twice her size.  Amused by his daughter’s antics, Jacob settled her against his chest, near his heart, and slowly drifted to sleep.

Unwilling to wake either his lover or their child, Morgan simply sat and soaked up the moment for as long as he could.  Before either had a chance to blink, their little girl would be a toddler, then a preschooler, and from there, it all became a blur.  From elementary school to high school.  From homecoming to prom to graduation.  In the space of a heartbeat, she’d be having her own babies and they’d be grandparents.

It was all too much to take in.

Turning his attention back to Jacob and their daughter, a smile creased Morgan’s face.  There was so much of his love in their little angle, starting with the curve of her nose and ending with the way she tucked her fist under her head as she slept.  This was more than perfect.  It was everything he had never known he’d wanted and more.

D'aw! You made me tear up there at the end, when the new father was imagining how quickly time would fly now that the baby is real and tangible. She'll barely be out of diapers and then next thing they know she'll be in college.

This is so sweet! I love seeing new daddies with their baby girl. *snuggles new family*

Aw, sorry about that! But I swear to god, the older my two get, the more emotional I get while writing about babies! God, and to think in three months and two days, my older child can get a driver's permit. EEEK!

Thank you so much though. I wasn't sure about this, but I'm glad you (and the original prompter) liked it :)

AHhhhhhhh, already driver's permit time? Wow. My folks were torn when I first started learning to drive. On the one hand they were sick with worry when I got out on the open highway. On the other, they loved having me run errands for them - grocery shopping, collecting the mail, picking up my sister from dance practice... yeah, they liked that. ;)

Hee! I have an icon like yours, too!

I do agree though. I just worry because my older girl, Taylor, is tiny. 5' 1" and barely 110 lbs at 15. My husband and I both drive trucks - I have a Dodge Ram and he has a Honda Ridgeline - and I worry because neither is easy to park. LOL But it'll be heaven when she's beating me up for Starbucks. LOL
