Word of the Day Prompt:

Aberrant (adjective, noun)
ab·er·rant [uh-ber-uhnt, ab-er-]

adjective
1. departing from the right, normal, or usual course.
2. deviating from the ordinary, usual, or normal type; exceptional; abnormal.

noun
3. an aberrant person, thing, group, etc.

--

One would think that, considering he was a vampire that he’d be the aberrant one.  But in fact, Dakotah was more ordinary than his wife, the witch.  Or even his child, the dhampir.  Can’t be any more abnormal than a half-vampire, half-human can you?

Well, you could, he supposed, but thinking things like that never ended well, so he moved on.

After some arm-twisting, I've expanded the earlier drabble into a full-blown story.  Well, if you can consider 1,094 words a story...

More original fiction featuring my favorite vampire, his sassy wife, and their dhampir son.
Bite Me )

From this prompt and featuring my original characters Dakotah, a vampire, Sierra, a witch, and Austen, the half-breed toddler from hell.
--

She examined the kitten, turning him over in her hands.  With one last look, Sierra placed Lugosi on the floor.  Spying her three-year-old son watching from the doorway, she motioned him over sternly.

“Austen, what have I told you about the kitten?”

Sheepish, he said, “That if I keep biting him, Papa is going to give him to another kid without fangs.”

“Exactly.  Now behave.”

“Yes, mama.”

“So,” he asked from behind her.  “The verdict?”

“No blood-sucking kittens this week, Kotah.”

“Best news I’ve heard all day.”

“Don’t know which is worse… vampires or their dhampir children,” she grumbled playfully.
