Author’s Notes: I wrote this in 2008 after the anniversary of the death of a long-time friend, Tony. This fic has been on my mind lately because it deals with the memory of two deaths for my character, Ali. Her childhood friend and her first husband. Tomorrow would have been my 23rd wedding anniversary, so I’m thinking that’s what stirring all this emotion up. Title and lyrics from a song by Pam Tillis called “The River and the Highway”, one of my favorites. I always kind of fancied myself as the river, and now I think I've become her.
